List Of Important Days in October 2023

1st October - International Day of Older Persons

The International Day of Older Persons was observed on 1st October. On December 14, 1990, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the resolution 45/106 and declared October 1 as the International Day of Older Persons. This day is observed in order to raise awareness about the issues affecting older persons.

1st October - World Vegetarian Day

World Vegetarian Day is observed on 1st October of every year.  In 1977, the North American Vegetarian Society (NAVS) founded the World Vegetarian Day and in the year of 1978, this day was endorsed by the International Vegetarian Union.

1st October - International Coffee Day

International Coffee Day is observed on 1st October of every year. In 2014, the Member States of ICO organized the International Coffee Day. The Southern Food and Beverages Museum first used the name International Coffee Day in 2009. This day is organized as a single day celebration for coffee lovers.

2nd October - Gandhi Jayanti

Gandhi Jayanti is observed on the 2nd October of every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2nd October 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat. He is a nonviolent freedom fighter. He is also called the Father of Nation.

2nd October - International Day of Non-Violence

The International Day of Non-Violence is celebrated in order to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi who was a nonviolent freedom fighter. On 15 June 2007, the UN General Assembly adopted the resolution and announced the International Day of Non-Violence. This day is observed to increase the awareness about the nonviolence to the people.

2nd October -  World Habitat Day

World Habitat Day is observed on the first Monday of October of every year. This year (2023) this day falls on the 2nd of October. This Day was announced by the United Nations General Assembly. This day was celebrated in the year of 1986 with the theme of Shelter is My Right. This day is observed to know the responsibility and power to shape the future cities or towns. 

4th October -  World Animal Welfare Day

Every year the 4th of October is celebrated as World Animal Welfare Day. This day was originated by  Heinrich Zimmermann. This day was celebrated on 24th March 1925. This day was observed in order to raise awareness about the welfare of animals all over the world.

5th October - World Teachers Day

World Teachers Day is celebrated every year on 5th October. This day is observed on 5th October in order to commemorate the signing of the UNESCO/ILO which is recommended concerning the Teacher's status in 1966. World Teachers Day was established in the year of 1994. This day is observed to appreciate and encourage teachers worldwide.

6th October - German American Day

Every year 6th October is celebrated as German American Day. This day was declared by President Ronald Reagan in the year of 1987. From 1989 the October month has been celebrated nationally as the German-American Heritage Month.

World Cerebral Palsy Day is observed on the 6th of October of every year. In 2012, the Cerebral Palsy Alliance created the World Cerebral Palsy Day.
