There is a single CBT for each grade, with no second stage exam. The syllabus below follows the CEN 02/2026 notice.

RRB Technician Exam Pattern 2026

Both grades get 100 objective questions of 1 mark each in 90 minutes, with one-third of a mark cut for each wrong answer. PwBD candidates using a scribe get 120 minutes. The difference lies in how the 100 questions are split.

RRB Technician Grade 1 Syllabus 2026

The Grade 1 Signal syllabus goes beyond school level in Maths and Science. Its Maths includes sets, statistics and probability, and Basic Science and Engineering covers circuits, electromagnetism and electronic measurement.

RRB Technician Grade 3 Syllabus 2026

Grade 3 is pitched at Class 10 level. Maths is arithmetic-heavy, and General Science draws from all three sciences, not just physics.

In Maths, ratio, successive discount, percentage, profit and loss and speed-distance came up most. General Science had 13–15 physics questions, with heat, force and motion featuring often, and Basic Science and Engineering had 5–6 questions on electricity alone.

RRB Technician Marking Scheme 2026

The marking scheme is the same for both grades. With a one-third penalty, three wrong answers wipe out one correct one, so guessing on more than a few questions lowers your score.

How to Prepare for RRB Technician Exam 2026

The right plan depends on your grade:

Grade 3: start with General Science from NCERT Class 9 and 10. It carries 40 marks and rewards plain revision more than any other section.
Grade 1 Signal: give Basic Science and Engineering the most time, especially circuits, Ohm's law, electromagnetism and measuring instruments, which carry 35 marks between them.
Grade 1 Signal: Computers is the easiest 20 marks on the paper; one week of fundamentals and MS Office is usually enough.
Both grades: practise arithmetic daily for speed, since Maths takes the most time per question.
Both grades: cover the last six months of current affairs for the 10 GA questions.
Take full 90-minute mocks and keep your attempts to questions you are fairly sure about, because of the one-third penalty.

The Grade 3 science and arithmetic syllabus is close to the RRB Group D syllabus, so RRB Group D previous year papers are good practice. Grade 1 aspirants will find the Basic Science and Engineering part of the RRB ALP syllabus a useful overlap.
