The first dam in India is the Kallanai Dam, which is also known as the Grand Anaicut. This dam was built by the King Karikala Chola of the Chola dynasty across the Kaveri River in Tamil Nadu in the Ancient historic period.
Recently, a dam named Polavaram Dam is under construction across the Godavari River in Andhra Pradesh. This dam is a large-scale, multi-purpose irrigation project. It is designed to address water scarcity, boost agricultural productivity, and generate power.
