IRMS Indian Railway Management Service Recruitment 2022: Exam

What is the IRMS exam?

IRMS UPSC exam is the Indian Railway Management Service Examination which is a government exam. This exam is given for the candidates who are interested in Railways.

 

The IRMS exam is usually conducted by Union Public Service Commission. The candidates for the UPSC IRMS are selected through the Civil Services Examination and Indian Engineering Service test. After the Government of India has merged the administrations under the Indian Railways at all levels into the Indian Railway Management Service, the examination is conducted through UPSC. 

 

Following Group “A” services from Civil Services & Engineering Services are now proposed to be merged into IRMS. It is a new cadre created by Indian Railways.

IRMS Recruitment 2022: IRMS Exam Eligibility

Nationality : 

Nationality is one of the important criteria for the IRMS exam. It includes

• Citizen of India
• Subject of Nepal 
• Subject of Bhutan 
• A Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, for permanent settlement in India.
•  Migrant from any of the following countries for permanently settling in India: Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam.

 

Educational qualifications:

• The candidate must hold a Bachelor's Degree from any of the universities, recognized by the UGC or its equivalent
• Candidates with professional and technical qualifications recognized by the Government or its equivalent can also apply.
• A degree or diploma in Engineering from a foreign college or university. It must be equivalent to the degree in India.
• Passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India).
• Passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers after 1959 (London).

 

Age limit :

A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on the 1st of August, 2019. 

The upper age limit prescribed above is relaxable for the following candidates: 

• 5 years - SC/ST
• 3 years - Other Backward Classes 
• 5 years - if a candidate had ordinarily been domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from the 1st January 1980 to the 31st December 1989. 
• 3 years-Defence Services personnel 
• 5 years-ex-servicemen including Commissioned Officers and ECOs/SSCOs who have rendered at least five years Military Service as of 1st August.

 

Medical Test:

The candidates qualifying for the exam will have to undergo a medical test before final selection. There will be a series of physical fitness tests that the candidates must clear. The medical examination must be conducted at one of the railway hospitals approved for the same. The schedule and the venue of the medical examination will be uploaded on the official website. Unfit candidates will be disqualified.

The IRMS exam is usually conducted by Union Public Service Commission. IRMS Recruitment 2022: Selection process

The UPSC IRMS exam consists of three stages namely prelims, mains, and interview.IRMS examination is necessarily held for 5 fields which are Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, and Non-technical entry for the applicants who are not engineers but are preparing for civil services. The candidates are going to be selected based on their performance in each stage. All the candidates will appear for the preliminary stage, based on the cut off a handful of candidates will be called for mains examination. Only a few candidates will be called for the Interview exam. The selection process involves:

• Preliminary Exam: The prelims exam is the screening exam. This is qualifying in nature. The exam consists of 100 questions of 100 marks.
• Mains Exam: The candidates who qualify for the preliminary exam are going to appear for the mains exam.
• Interview: For the candidates who qualify from the prelims and mains exams are going to appear for the interview round.

 

After clearing all three stages there will be a medical test held. After all the rounds final merit will be decided and departments shall be allocated.

IRMS Recruitment 2022: IRMS Salary

As per the 7th pay commission, the candidates will be eligible to receive other perks and benefits apart from the IRMS salary. It can be expected that the IRMS in-hand salary will be INR 55,135. The Junior level staff will receive INR 15600-39100 after their joining, whereas the Cabinet Secretary will get INR 90,000. The IRMS salary structure will be updated soon.
