RRB Technician Grade 1 Signal starts at a basic pay of ₹29,200 (Pay Level 5), and Technician Grade 3 at ₹19,900 (Pay Level 2). RRB Technician In-Hand Salary 2026

In-hand salary is gross pay minus deductions. The main deduction is NPS at 10% of basic plus DA; the others are small, such as group insurance (CGEGIS), professional tax in some states and income tax, which is usually nil at these salary levels under the new tax regime.

Technicians staying in railway quarters do not get HRA, and a small licence fee is deducted instead, so their in-hand pay is lower than these figures.

The maximum basic is ₹92,300 at Level 5 and ₹63,200 at Level 2, but most technicians move to a higher level through promotion long before reaching it.

RRB Technician Salary Allowances and Benefits

Beyond the monthly salary, railway employment comes with benefits that a private technician job rarely offers.

Dearness Allowance (DA)

DA is 60% of basic pay from 1 January 2026 and is revised every January and July. On a Grade 3 basic of ₹19,900, each 1% rise adds about ₹199 a month.

House Rent Allowance (HRA)

HRA is 30%, 20% or 10% of basic pay for X, Y and Z class cities. Many technicians are posted at workshops and sheds in smaller towns, so the 10% rate is common in the first posting.

Transport Allowance (TA)

TA is a fixed amount plus DA on it. Grade 1 (Level 5) gets the higher Level 3–8 slab; Grade 3 (Level 2) gets the lower Level 1–2 slab.

Medical Facilities and Railway Benefits

Technicians and their dependants get free treatment at railway hospitals and health units through the UMID card, so no CGHS amount is deducted. Other benefits include:

• Productivity Linked Bonus of 78 days' wages (up to ₹17,951 for 2025–26)
• Night duty allowance for night shifts, as basic pay is below the ₹43,600 ceiling

Promotion in the technician cadre is by seniority and trade tests, and Grade 1 Signal recruits start two steps higher than Grade 3 recruits.
