RPF Syllabus 2026: Constable and SI Subject-Wise Syllabus, Exam Pattern and Physical Test

The RPF Syllabus 2026 covers three subjects for both Constable and SI: General Awareness, Arithmetic, and General Intelligence and Reasoning. No 2026 notification has been released yet, and the next drive will be run by the Staff Selection Commission under the RPF (Amendment) Rules, 2025, so the exam pattern could change. Until SSC publishes it, the syllabus and pattern of the last RPF exam (CEN RPF 01/2024 and 02/2024) are the right guide, and the topics below are common to both systems.

RPF Syllabus 2026: Overview

The last RPF CBT was the same paper format for Constable and SI; only the level of questions differed.

RPF Exam Pattern 2026

General Awareness carries the most marks, 50 of 120, so it decides most merit lists. This was the pattern for both posts in the 2024 cycle:

Arithmetic

General Intelligence and Reasoning

If SSC adopts its CAPF constable format, the paper may look like the SSC GD exam pattern: 80 questions of 2 marks in 60 minutes, with an English or Hindi section added. This is a possibility, not an announcement, so keep preparing for the three RPF subjects and watch the SSC notice.

RPF Constable Syllabus 2026

The Constable paper is set at Class 10 level. Arithmetic is school-level calculation, General Awareness leans on static GK and recent events, and Reasoning tests standard verbal and non-verbal patterns.

General Intelligence and Reasoning

Reasoning has 35 questions and mixes verbal and non-verbal types, so practise both.

Topic

What to cover

Analogy, classification, similarities and differences

Word, number and figure based

Number and alphabet series

Missing and wrong term

Coding-decoding

Letter, number and symbol coding

Blood relations, direction sense

Family trees, distance and direction

Syllogism, statement and conclusion

Logical deduction

Arithmetical reasoning, decision making, judgement

Problem solving

Puzzles and arrangements

Seating arrangement, order and ranking

Non-verbal reasoning

Spatial visualisation, orientation, figure series, visual memory

RPF SI Syllabus 2026

The SI paper uses the same three subjects and topic list as the Constable paper, but questions are set at graduation level. In practice that means longer arithmetic problems with more steps, General Awareness that goes deeper into polity, economy and current affairs, and more analytical reasoning puzzles. Prepare from the Constable syllabus above and add depth in these areas:

Subject

Extra focus for SI

General Awareness

Constitutional bodies, economic terms, international organisations, environment

Arithmetic

Multi-step word problems, data interpretation with calculations

Reasoning

Puzzles, statement-assumption and conclusion, critical reasoning

RPF Selection Process 2026

The amended rules (Rule 49.1) keep four stages, now under SSC:

  • Computer Based Test
  • PET and PMT (qualifying only)
  • Document verification
  • Medical examination by a CAPF or Grade-I government medical officer

The merit list is based on CBT marks; there is no interview.

RPF Physical Efficiency Test and Physical Measurement Test

The PET and PMT are qualifying, but they are where many candidates drop out. The 2025 rules raise the male height for the Executive cadre to 170 cm; the full new PET table will come with the notification.

These were the standards in the last Constable drive. Each event is a qualifying test.

The syllabus will be part of the SSC notification for RPF Constable and SI, published on ssc.gov.in. Until then, the CEN RPF 01/2024 and 02/2024 notices on RRB websites carry the last official syllabus. There is no separate syllabus PDF.

How to Prepare for RPF Constable and SI Exams

Start now; the syllabus overlaps heavily with SSC GD and other railway exams, so nothing is wasted if the pattern changes.

  • Give General Awareness the most time. At 50 marks it is the biggest section, and static GK can be finished early and revised often.
  • Practise 20–25 arithmetic questions daily from percentage, ratio, profit and loss, interest and time-distance.
  • In Reasoning, master series, coding-decoding, analogy and blood relations first; they make up most of the section.
  • Take full 90-minute mocks and limit guesses, because of the one-third penalty.
  • Start running training at least three months before the expected PET. Build up to the 1,600 m time, then add long and high jump practice.
  • Check your height against the new 170 cm male standard before applying.

The RPF previous year papers from the 2024 cycle show the exact question level, and SSC GD Constable preparation material is useful practice for the SSC-run format.
