Total Ramsar Sites In India 2024: Ramsar sites are the Wetlands of International Importance. The Convention on Wetlands is an intergovernmental treaty signed to provide the framework for conserving and wise use of wetlands and their resources. The treaty was adopted in the Iranian City of Ramsar in 1971 and came to act in 1975. Currently, there are 2,400 Ramsar Sites around the world covering more than 2.5 million square kilometres. Every year World Wetland Day is observed on 2nd February with a specific theme to prevent the wetland resources. Currently, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Labour and Employment Bhupender Yadav announced that 5 more wetlands are included in the Ramsar Convention list.
