Railway Station Master Syllabus 2026: New CBT Pattern, CBAT and Topics

The Railway Station Master syllabus has changed for 2026. Station Master now has its own CBT of 100 marks in 120 minutes, with no General Awareness section, and English reading comprehension appears for the first time. Maths, basic science and data interpretation together carry 60 marks. The separate Station Master notification is expected in the last week of October 2026, and the RRB will confirm the syllabus in it.

Current, voltage, resistance, Ohm's law, simple circuits

Levers and Simple Machines

Types of levers, mechanical advantage, everyday uses

Railway Station Master Data Analysis and Interpretation Syllabus

This 30-mark section is new and carries as much weight as maths and science together. Questions are based on text, tables and multiple data sources, so regular data interpretation practice is the best way to prepare.

Topic

What to cover

Data presentation

Tables, bar and line graphs, pie charts, scatter plots

Distributions

Statistical (curved) distributions, reading trends

Venn diagrams

Set-based data questions

Data sufficiency

Deciding whether the data given is enough

Data arrangement and inferences

Sorting data, drawing conclusions from multi-source data

Railway Station Master General Intelligence and Reasoning Syllabus

Reasoning is split into two sections in 2026: Logical Capability (20 marks), which also includes English reading comprehension, and Mental Reasoning (20 marks).

Logical Capability

This section tests how you reason from given facts, and includes passage-based English questions.

Topic

What to cover

Logical reasoning

Binary logic, syllogism, clocks and calendars, assumptions

Relations

Blood relations and family tree

Puzzles

Logic-based puzzles

Reading comprehension

English passages on history, society, literature, science, environment, technology, mythology and culture; questions on the main idea, supporting ideas, application, logical structure and writing style

Mental Reasoning

These are quick, pattern-based questions where speed decides your score.

Topic

What to cover

Analogy

Word, number and figure analogies

Series completion

Number and letter series

Coding-decoding

Letter, number and word coding

Ranking and arrangements

Order and ranking, seating arrangement

Railway Station Master General Awareness Syllabus

General Awareness is not part of the 2026 Station Master CBT. Under RRB NTPC, it carried 40 of 100 marks in CBT 1 and 50 of 120 in CBT 2, so this is the biggest change for repeat candidates. The table below shows how the old and new papers compare; the old pattern is in the RRB NTPC syllabus and exam pattern.

Railway Station Master Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) Syllabus

The CBAT has no subject syllabus. It is a set of psycho-technical test batteries designed by RDSO that check the abilities a Station Master needs on duty: memory, attention, perception, spatial judgement and quick decision-making.

Ability

What it checks

Memory

Recalling information shown for a short time

Attention and concentration

Picking out relevant details quickly and without errors

Perception

Judging shapes, distances and patterns

Information processing

Following instructions and putting information in the right order

Speed and accuracy

Responding correctly under time pressure

Railway Station Master CBAT Exam Pattern

The CBAT is held only for candidates shortlisted from the CBT, at 8 times the vacancies. Here are the rules followed in recent RRB recruitments.

Railway Station Master Syllabus PDF Download

The official syllabus will be part of the Station Master CEN, released on the regional RRB websites and rrbapply.gov.in. Older RRB NTPC syllabus PDFs do not match the 2026 pattern, so check the date on any PDF before you use it. Once the CEN is out, download it and turn the syllabus into a checklist to tick off topics as you finish them.

How to Prepare for the Railway Station Master Exam?

Plan your time by marks. Maths, science and data interpretation carry 60 of the 100 marks, so they should get the biggest share of your study time.

For maths and reasoning, RRB NTPC previous year papers are still useful because those topics have not changed. Read one English editorial a day for reading comprehension, and revise Class 9–10 physics for the science part. Start CBAT practice early with timed mock tests, since a low score in any one battery ends your chances. To set a weekly routine, you can adapt the RRB NTPC study plan to the new sections.
