World Poetry Day 2022: On 21st March 2022 World Poetry Day is observed all over the world. It is a global event celebrated on March 21st every year all over the world in order to honor the poets to continue to instill the tradition in newer generations. The day celebrates poetry, recitals, music, and other forms of cultural entertainment including theatre, dance, painting, and writing. World Poetry Day aims to appreciate the sentiment that poetry can create, forming meaningful relationships and expanding one’s mind about history and cultures.   • The earliest poetry is believed to have surfaced with the “Epic of Gilgamesh” sometime during 2000 B.C., but it is likely that poetry existed even before the spread of literacy.
  • In the 14th Century, Sonnets were Created and Francesco Petrarca’s writings are some of the most famous early ‘sonnets.’
  • The day was proposed and adopted by UNESCO in 1999, on the occasion of its 30th General Conference held in Paris to “give fresh recognition and impetus to national, regional and international poetry movements.”
