Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu announced Amaravati as the state capital of Andhra Pradesh. Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu said that Amaravati would be the capital of Andhra Pradesh a day before taking oath as the state chief minister. A total of 8 union territories are there in India at present. Jammu & Kashmir has been divided into two union territories, namely, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. The U.T. Daman and Diu, Dadra, and Nagar Haveli have become a single union territory. On August 5, the central government also announced the abrogation of the special status given to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 and its division into two Union Territories, i.e. UTs of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. With the merger of Daman and Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, the number of UTs has come down to eight. Here is the list of union territories of India with their capitals.
