SSC MTS Study Plan 2026: 30-Day, 60-Day Plan and Daily Timetable

A good SSC MTS study plan 2026 should cover all four subjects, but it should not treat them equally. In the SSC MTS exam, the merit list is made only from Session II marks (General Awareness and English), while Session I (Maths and Reasoning) only has to be qualified. So the smart plan is to clear Session I safely and score as high as possible in Session II. The SSC MTS 2026 notification is expected in October 2026, which gives most candidates two to four months to prepare. This page gives a daily timetable, a 30-day and a 60-day plan, and a subject-wise strategy.

SSC MTS Exam Pattern and Subjects

The SSC MTS computer-based exam has two sessions of 45 minutes each, and both are compulsory. Each question carries 3 marks. There is no negative marking in Session I, but Session II has a penalty of 1 mark for each wrong answer.

Session

What this means for your study plan: Session I is qualifying, so aim for a safe score there. Your rank depends on Session II, so General Awareness and English need the most time. Because of negative marking in Session II, accuracy matters more than the number of attempts. You can see every topic under each subject in the SSC MTS syllabus and exam pattern.

How to Prepare for SSC MTS 2026

Before you start the timetable, spend the first two or three days on these three steps. They decide how you divide your time for the rest of the plan.

Understand the SSC MTS Syllabus

Print the syllabus and break each subject into topics. The SSC MTS level is Class 10, so most topics are basic. Mark the topics you already know, the ones you need to revise and the ones you need to learn from the start. If you are not sure you can apply, check the SSC MTS eligibility criteria before you begin.

Identify Strong and Weak Subjects

Solve one previous year paper in 90 minutes without preparation. Note your score in each subject. If you score below 25 in Session I (out of 120), spend more time on Maths and Reasoning basics. If your Session II score is low, start General Awareness and English from day one, since they decide your rank.

Set Daily Study Targets

Set targets in questions and topics, not hours. A good daily target is 25 Maths questions, 25 Reasoning questions, one English practice set (grammar or vocabulary) and one General Awareness topic plus current affairs. Tick it off at night so you can see your progress.

SSC MTS Daily Study Timetable

This SSC MTS daily timetable assumes about 5 to 6 hours of study. Working candidates can keep only the morning and night blocks and follow the 60-day plan over a longer period.

Time

SSC MTS 30-Day Study Plan

The SSC MTS 30-day study plan is for candidates who already know the basics and need to revise and practise. If you are starting from zero, follow the 60-day plan instead.

Week 1 – Build Basic Concepts

Revise the most common topics from each subject and take a short test at the end of the week.

Subject

Topics

Mathematics

Number System, Simplification, LCM and HCF, Percentage

Reasoning

Analogy, Classification, Number Series, Alphabet Series

English

Tenses, Articles, Subject-Verb Agreement, Error Spotting

General Awareness

History, Geography, Static GK

Week 2 – Cover Important Topics

Move to the remaining high-frequency topics, and revise Week 1 topics for 30 minutes daily.

Subject

Topics

Mathematics

Ratio and Proportion, Average, Profit and Loss, Simple Interest, Time and Work

Reasoning

Coding-Decoding, Direction Sense, Blood Relation, Non-Verbal Reasoning

English

Synonyms and Antonyms (Vocabulary), Cloze Test, Reading Comprehension

General Awareness

Polity, Economy, General Science, Current Affairs

Week 3 – Practice Questions and Previous Year Papers

This week is for practice under time limits.

  • Solve one of the SSC MTS previous year question papers every alternate day in 90 minutes.
  • Take two full mock tests.
  • Spend at least 30 minutes analysing each paper and noting mistakes.
  • Revise grammar rules and GK notes daily.

Week 4 – Revision and Mock Tests

In the last week, do not start new topics. Focus on mocks and revision.

  • Take 4 to 5 full mock tests at the same time as your exam shift.
  • Revise formulas, grammar rules, vocabulary and GK notes.
  • Re-solve questions from your mistakes notebook.
  • In Session II, attempt only questions you are fairly sure of, because of negative marking.
  • Keep the last day light and sleep well.

SSC MTS 60-Day Study Plan

The SSC MTS 60-day study plan suits beginners. It moves from concepts to practice to full mocks in four phases.

Phase

Days

Target

Phase 1: Foundation

1 to 15

Basics of all four subjects; start current affairs

Phase 2: Syllabus coverage

16 to 30

All remaining topics with topic-wise practice; revise Phase 1

Phase 3: Practice

31 to 45

Previous year papers and sectional tests; 2 full mocks a week

Phase 4: Revision

46 to 60

4 to 5 mocks a week, revise weak topics and notes

In Phase 1 and Phase 2, cover the topics listed in Weeks 1 and 2 of the 30-day plan at a slower pace, two topics per subject per week. In Phase 3, solve all available previous year papers of the last two cycles. In Phase 4, follow the Week 4 routine of the 30-day plan.

SSC MTS Subject-Wise Preparation Strategy

Each subject needs a different approach. Here is what to focus on, with the target score for each.

Subject

Session

Target

Priority

General Awareness

II

60+ out of 75

High (decides rank)

English

II

70+ out of 75

High (decides rank)

Mathematics

I

30+ out of 60

Qualify safely

Reasoning

I

40+ out of 60

Qualify safely

These targets are a guide, not official figures. In the last cycle, the UR cut-off for Havaldar posts was about 135 to 143 out of 150 in Session II, so you need around 130 or more in GA and English together to be safe. Check the state-wise numbers in the SSC MTS cut-off before setting your own target.

Numerical and Mathematical Ability

SSC MTS Maths is at Class 10 level and mostly arithmetic. Learn tables up to 20 and squares up to 30 to calculate faster. Solve 25 questions daily, starting with untimed practice and then setting a limit of about one minute per question. Keep one formula sheet and revise it every Sunday.

Reasoning Ability and Problem Solving

Reasoning is usually the easiest section to score in. Practise analogy, classification, series, coding-decoding, direction and non-verbal questions (mirror image, paper folding, figure counting). Solve timed sets of 20 questions in 20 minutes, and note any question type you get wrong more than twice.

General Awareness

General Awareness carries 75 marks in Session II and has the biggest effect on your rank. Use NCERT books (Class 6 to 10) for history, geography, polity and science, and one source for current affairs of the last 6 to 8 months. Make one-page notes for each topic and revise them weekly with quizzes. Topic-wise notes in the SSC MTS study material PDF can save time here.

English Language and Comprehension

English is the most scoring subject in Session II because questions are direct. Revise basic grammar rules, learn 15 to 20 new words a day with their synonyms and antonyms, and practise one cloze test or comprehension passage daily. Keep a list of the grammar mistakes you repeat. For one reliable book per subject, see our list of best SSC MTS books.

SSC MTS Mock Test and Previous Year Paper Strategy

Mock tests are useful only if you analyse them. Follow these steps:

  • Start with sectional tests once you finish a topic.
  • Solve previous year papers in 90 minutes, split into two 45-minute sessions like the real exam.
  • Start full mocks from day 31 (60-day plan) or week 3 (30-day plan).
  • After each test, sort mistakes into three types: concept not known, silly error, and time pressure.
  • Track your Session II score in a notebook; it should rise steadily.
  • In the last two weeks, take a mock every day if you can.

SSC MTS Revision Strategy

Revision is what turns study into marks. Use this routine:

  • Daily: 30 to 45 minutes of formulas, grammar rules and GK notes.
  • Weekly: every Sunday, revise all topics of the week and re-solve wrong questions.
  • Spaced revision: revisit each topic after 1 day, 7 days and 21 days.
  • Last 10 days: only short notes, the mistakes notebook and mocks.

Common Mistakes to Avoid During SSC MTS Preparation

With SSC MTS vacancies changing sharply from year to year (7,948 posts in 2025), every mark counts. These are the mistakes that cost aspirants the most marks:

  • Spending most of the time on Maths, even though Session I is only qualifying.
  • Guessing in Session II, where each wrong answer costs 1 mark.
  • Leaving current affairs for the last month.
  • Using too many books instead of revising one set of notes.
  • Taking mocks without analysing them.
  • Changing the timetable every few days.

SSC MTS Study Plan for Beginners

If you are starting SSC MTS preparation from zero, follow these steps:

  • Read the syllabus and solve one past paper to check your level.
  • Follow the 60-day plan with 4 to 5 hours of study a day.
  • Start General Awareness and English from day one, since they decide your rank.
  • Learn the basic method in Maths before using shortcuts.
  • Solve 10 to 15 questions right after learning each topic.
  • Move from sectional tests to full mocks only after Phase 2.
  • Track your scores every week and adjust the time you give each subject.
