World Ozone Day 2022: September 16 - History, Theme, Significance, Quotes
Sep 13 2022
World Ozone Day 2022: In 1913, the French Physicists, Charles Fabry and Henri Buisson discovered the Ozone Layer. The Stratospheric region with the high concentration of ozone is commonly known as the ozone layer which is located 10 - 16 kilometers above the earth’s surface and extends about 50 kilometers in altitude. The Ozone layer protects the earth from UV radiation from the Sun. If the Ozone Layer is broken down then the radiation from Sun directly reaches the Earth and it may cause many diseases like an increase in skin cancer, impairs the immune systems of all animals including humans, and interferes with phytoplankton productivity in the oceans. The Ozone Layer is greatly affected by some harmful gases like CFCs and HCFCs in refrigerators, air conditioners, foam, etc. At present, there is a hole in the ozone layer which is located at the poles of the Antarctic continent and the Arctic Ocean. This hole allows a large amount of radiation to each earth. We have to protect our ozone layer by avoiding the consumption of gases that are dangerous to the ozone layer.
