World Elephant Day 2023:  World Elephant Day is an international annual event on August 12, Conceived in 2011 by Canadian filmmakers Patrica Sims and Michael Clark of Canazwest pictures and Sivaporn Dardarananda, Secretary general of Elephant Reintroduction Foundation in Thailand. It was officially launched on August 12, 2012. World Elephant Day 2023 is celebrated in order to preserve and protect the elephants. Working towards the better protection of elephants and conserving the habitats and reintroducing captive elephants into nature through sanctuaries was the goal. World Elephant Day 2023 asks you to experience the elephants in nonexploitive and sustainable environments where elephants can thrive under care and protection.

• The first world elephant day was held on 12 August 2012. The film “RETURN TO THE FOREST” narrated by William Shatner was released on the inaugural of world elephant day.

World Elephant Day 2023 Theme

Over the last decade, the number of elephants has significantly dropped by 62% and this could be extinct by the end of the next decade. Over 100 elephants were killed by the poachers. Every year theme is alloted to raise awareness about the peotection of elephants. • The demand for ivory makes the poachers kill more elephants. One of the world’s largest elephants, SATAO was killed recently for its iconic tusk. Another Kenyan giant elephant MOUNTAIN BULL was also killed for its ivory
•  For meat, leather, and tusks the elephants were poached. Poachers were trained for this due to the number of tools needed to be transported and because of the large size of these animals.
• The escalation of poaching, habitats, human-elephant conflicts, and mistreatment in captivity are some of the threats to elephants. Deforestation was also a cause of the decreasing population of elephants.
• World elephant day is a day where organizations and individuals can rally together to give a voice to the issues threatening elephants..
