Elephant Reserves in India List 2025 PDF: Check State Wise with Population of Elephants

Elephant reserves in India are important areas established to conserve elephants. These reserves serve as essential management units that protect their natural habitats and help to resolve conflicts between humans and wildlife.

"The Indian government has created 33 elephant reserves, encompassing a total area of 80,777.778 square kilometers across 14 prominent states known for their elephant habitats."

This effort was coordinated by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change alongside the State Forest Departments. The elephant reserves frequently overlap with tiger reserves, wildlife sanctuaries, and designated forest areas. These protected regions are regulated under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, the Indian Forest Act of 1927, and other relevant local legislation. The first of these reserves, the Singhbhum Elephant Reserve, was established in 2001 in Jharkhand.
