The Indian Ministry of Environment has validated 150 elephant corridors across 15 states, urging states and Union Territories to protect and conserve them. Critical habitats are designated as 'Elephant Reserves' to enhance conservation and reduce human-elephant conflicts. India has 33 elephant reserves in 14 states, covering 80777.778 sq. km. These reserves overlap with Tiger Reserves, Wildlife Sanctuaries, and Reserved Forests, all protected under the Wildlife (Protection) Act of 1972 and other local laws. Infrastructure development is governed by these regulations. Elephant reserves in India, are key units for conservation and management. The last three lists of elephant reserves in India are as follows:

  1. Terai Elephant Reserve - The 33rd Elephant Reserve is located in Uttar Pradesh with an area of 3049 sq. km and it is the 2nd Elephant Reserve in Uttar Pradesh.

  2. Agasthyamalai Elephant Reserve - The 32nd Elephant Reserve is located in Tamilnadu.

  3. Lemru Elephant Reserve - The 31st Elephant Reserve is located in Chhattisgarh.
