Different Civilian Awards In India: Highest Awards In India List
The civilian awards are given to recognised personalities in their field of work. These awards are presented to the respective recipients by the President of India on Republic Day. The civilian awards were introduced in 1954. For Padma awards, all persons without distinction of race, occupation, position or sex are eligible for these awards. However, Government servants including those working with PSUs, except doctors and scientists, are not eligible for these Awards. All nominations received for the Padma Awards are placed before the Padma Awards Committee, which is constituted by the Prime Minister every year. The Padma Awards Committee is headed by the Cabinet Secretary and includes the Home Secretary, Secretary to the President and four to six eminent persons as members. The recommendations of the committee are submitted to the Prime Minister and the President of India for approval. Civilian Awards are categorized according to the degree of honour. The Gallantry Award is an important award that is given upon conspicuous acts of bravery, valour or self-sacrifice in the presence of energy. These gallantry awards are announced twice a year - first on the occasion of Republic Day and then on the occasion of Independence Day. List of Important International Awards: Man Booker Prize
The Man Booker Prize honours only a single novel of an author, whereas the Man Booker International Prize recognises the entire body of work of an author instead of a single title. The Man Booker Prize is recognised as the leading prize for high-quality literary fiction written in English. Launched in 1969, it aims to promote the finest in fiction by rewarding the best novel of the year written in English and published in the United Kingdom. The winner of The Man Booker Prize receives 50,000 British pounds and trophy and, like all the shortlisted authors, a cheque for 2,500 British pounds and a designer-bound copy of their book.

List of Important International Awards: Oscar Awards
On May 16, 1929, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences handed out its first awards, at a dinner party for around 250 people. The ceremony was held in the Blossom Room of the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, California. The Indian films nominated for Oscars are Mother India (1957), Salaam Bombay (1988), and Lagaan (2001). Bhanu Athaiya was the first Indian to win an Oscar Award in 1982 for costume design in Gandhi Movie.
