HRA stops the day a government quarter or a unit barrack is allotted, and most new constables live in barracks during their first years. So the barrack case, not the metro case, is the realistic starting salary for most recruits.

SSC GD Salary 2026 by Force: BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, SSB, SSF and Assam Rifles

BSF Constable Salary
A BSF Constable (GD) starts at ₹21,700 basic and ₹34,720 with DA. Most early postings are at border outposts with barrack housing, so HRA is usually nil, while Risk and Hardship Allowance is added where the location is notified.
CRPF Constable Salary
A CRPF Constable (GD) draws the same ₹21,700 basic. CRPF units move often between field deployments, so pay can swing month to month as Risk and Hardship or detachment allowances start and stop with each deployment.
CISF Constable Salary
A CISF Constable (GD) also starts at ₹21,700. Because many CISF units guard airports and metros in X-class and TPTA cities, a CISF constable living outside government housing can reach the top of the in-hand range, about ₹43,488.
ITBP Constable Salary
An ITBP Constable (GD) starts at ₹21,700 basic. High-altitude border posts fall in the higher Risk and Hardship cells, which can make an ITBP field posting one of the better-paying SSC GD assignments, though only while you serve there.
SSB, Assam Rifles and SSF Salary
SSB Constables and Assam Rifles Riflemen (GD) start at ₹21,700 with border and north-east field allowances where notified. The Secretariat Security Force guards ministries in Delhi, so a constable there gets Delhi HRA and TA rates; read what SSF is in SSC GD before you fill your force preference.

How SSC GD Salary Changes on Transfer to a Field or Hard Area
A transfer can raise or cut your take-home pay, because HRA, TA and field allowances switch on and off with the posting. The example compares the same constable at entry pay in two postings, excluding ration money.

SSC GD Salary After 5 Years
After five annual increments, basic pay reaches ₹25,200. The comparison keeps DA frozen at 60% only to show the effect of increments; in reality DA rises twice a year, so actual year-5 pay will be higher.

FAQs on SSC GD Salary 2026
Q1. What is the SSC GD Salary 2026 per month?
The SSC GD salary 2026 starts at a basic pay of ₹21,700 per month in Pay Level 3. Adding DA at 60%, HRA and Transport Allowance, the gross salary is about ₹37,600 to ₹46,990 a month, depending on city and housing. Ration money and duty allowances are paid on top where admissible.
Q2. What is the in-hand salary of an SSC GD Constable?
A new SSC GD Constable takes home about ₹34,098 a month when living in a unit barrack at a non-metro posting, and about ₹43,488 in an X-class city without government housing. These figures deduct NPS (₹3,472) and CGEGIS (₹30) but exclude ration money and field allowances.
Q3. What is the basic pay of SSC GD Constable?
The basic pay of an SSC GD Constable is ₹21,700 per month, the first cell of Pay Level 3 in the 7th CPC pay matrix. It rises by about 3% with each annual increment, reaching ₹25,200 after five increments and up to ₹69,100 at the top of the level.
Q4. What is the SSC GD pay scale under the 7th Pay Commission?
Under the 7th Pay Commission, SSC GD Constables are placed in Pay Level 3 with a pay scale of ₹21,700 to ₹69,100. This matrix continues until the 8th Pay Commission's recommendations are accepted. DA, HRA and Transport Allowance are added to basic pay at the rates in force.
Q5. What allowances are provided to SSC GD Constables?
SSC GD Constables get Dearness Allowance (60% of basic from January 2026), HRA when no government housing is given, Transport Allowance plus DA, ration money allowance and a yearly dress allowance. Risk and Hardship Allowance is paid in notified field, hard or high-altitude areas, along with medical care, leave and pension benefits.
Q6. Is SSC GD salary different for BSF, CRPF and CISF?
No, the basic pay is the same ₹21,700 in BSF, CRPF and CISF because all three posts sit in Pay Level 3. Take-home pay differs with posting: a CISF constable at a metro airport may draw higher HRA and TA, while BSF and CRPF personnel in field areas may get Risk and Hardship Allowance.
Q7. What is the SSC GD salary after 5 years of service?
After five annual increments, basic pay reaches ₹25,200. At the current 60% DA, a constable in a barrack at a non-metro posting would draw about ₹43,200 gross and ₹39,138 in hand. The actual figure will be higher because DA is revised twice a year, and a pay commission revision may also apply.
Q8. What deductions are made from the SSC GD salary?
The main deduction is the employee's NPS share of 10% of basic pay plus DA, which is ₹3,472 a month at entry. CGEGIS of ₹30 is also deducted. Licence fee for quarters, welfare fund subscriptions and income tax, if payable, may appear on the slip. Entry-level pay usually attracts no income tax.
Q9. What are the promotion opportunities for SSC GD Constables?
In CAPFs, a Constable (GD) can be promoted to Head Constable (Level 4), Assistant Sub-Inspector (Level 5), Sub-Inspector (Level 6) and Inspector (Level 7). Promotion depends on vacancies, seniority, training and departmental tests. If promotion is delayed, MACP gives a financial upgrade to the next pay level after 10, 20 and 30 years.
Q10. Do SSC GD Constables receive additional benefits for difficult-area postings?
Yes. Constables posted in notified field, counter-insurgency, border or high-altitude locations receive Risk and Hardship Allowance based on the location's category, and some deployments carry special duty or detachment allowances. These are paid only while the posting qualifies, so the amount varies by location and is not automatic for every constable of a force.
