Tips to Improve English Vocabulary for SSC MTS
The most effective habit is learning words in context and revising them on a schedule, not memorising long lists once.
- Read daily. One editorial or news article a day exposes you to exam-level words in real sentences.
- Keep a vocabulary notebook. Write each word with its meaning, Hindi meaning, synonym, antonym and a sentence.
- Learn roots and prefixes. Bene- means good (benevolent, benefit); mal- means bad (malice, malnutrition); -phobia means fear; -cide means killing.
- Learn in groups. Study words by theme, or learn synonyms and antonyms together.
- Use flashcards or an app for 10 minutes during travel or breaks.
- Solve previous year papers. They show which words and idioms SSC repeats.
- Use elimination. In synonym and antonym questions, remove options with the wrong tone (positive or negative) first.
- Do not guess blindly. With 1 mark lost per wrong answer, skip a question if you cannot narrow it to two options.
