- The ECB/OFCB swap facility will operate daily on working days, enabling banks to swap eligible inflows received during the preceding week.
- Swaps under the ECB/OFCB facility will be conducted at a fixed rate of 1.5% per annum, compounded semi-annually.
- The ECB/OFCB Forex Swap Facility will remain open until 15 January 2027 for eligible ECB drawdowns and OFCB inflows received up to 31 December 2026.

Technology Development Board Backs TIEA Connectors for Commercialisation of Indigenous Advanced Connectors for Aerospace, Defence, Space and EV Sectors
- The Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, has extended support to TIEA Connectors Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru for the project titled “Commercialization of Airborne Connectors for Aerospace, Defense & Charging Connectors for EV.”
- The project aims to strengthen India's indigenous capabilities in the design and manufacture of high-reliability electrical interconnect systems for aerospace, defence, space, and electric mobility sectors.
- Electrical connectors are critical components that ensure uninterrupted transmission of power, signals, and data in electronic and electromechanical systems.
- In sectors such as aerospace, defence, and space, connectors must perform reliably under extreme vibration, shock, temperature variations, and environmental stress conditions.
- The technology developed by TIEA Connectors Pvt. Ltd. is based on an advanced vibration-resistant contact architecture designed for stable electrical performance in highly dynamic environments.
- The innovation incorporates a proprietary multi-point elastic contact mechanism, which improves contact retention, reduces electrical resistance, and prevents signal interruptions under severe vibration conditions.
- A key feature of the technology is its ability to maintain reliable electrical performance under vibration levels of up to 100G, making it suitable for mission-critical aerospace, defence, and space applications.
- The connectors are manufactured using Beryllium Copper (BeCu) alloy, known for its high strength, conductivity, and reliability.
- The connectors incorporate specialized locking mechanisms to ensure secure engagement and sustained electrical integrity in harsh operating environments.
- For strategic applications, the connectors are enhanced with silver and gold plating, providing superior electrical conductivity, corrosion resistance, and long-term reliability.
- The project aligns with the Government of India's Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative and the national objective of indigenisation of critical technologies in defence, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing sectors.
- TIEA Connectors Pvt. Ltd. has developed comprehensive in-house capabilities covering product design, engineering, tooling, prototyping, validation, testing, and manufacturing.
- Critical processes such as precision tooling, high-speed stamping, scientific injection moulding, surface treatment, and performance testing are being carried out within India.
- The initiative will significantly reduce dependence on imported connector technologies and components, thereby strengthening India's technological self-reliance.
- Beyond strategic sectors, the technology will support the development of robust charging connector solutions for Electric Vehicles (EVs) and contribute to India's growing electric mobility ecosystem.
National Aeronautics and Space Administration Declares MAVEN Mars Orbiter Mission Ended After Spacecraft Becomes Unrecoverable
- The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) officially ended the MAVEN mission after losing contact with the spacecraft on 6 December 2025, and concluded after nearly six months of radio silence that the orbiter could not be recovered.
- MAVEN (Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution) was launched in November 2013 and successfully entered orbit around Mars on 21 September 2014.
- The mission was designed to study the Martian atmosphere, ionosphere, and interactions with the Sun, helping scientists understand how Mars transformed from a warm and wet planet into the cold and dry world seen today.
- The primary objective of MAVEN was to investigate the loss of Mars’ atmosphere to space and its implications for the planet’s climate, liquid water, and habitability.
- Although originally planned as a one-year mission, MAVEN operated successfully for more than 11 years, exceeding its primary mission duration by over a decade.
- Before communication was lost, telemetry data showed that all spacecraft subsystems were functioning normally.
- After passing behind Mars on 6 December 2025, NASA’s Deep Space Network (DSN) failed to detect a signal from the spacecraft.
- Analysis of recorded radio signals indicated that MAVEN had entered safe mode and was rotating at an unusually high rate, suggesting a disruption in its orbital trajectory.
- The anomaly review board concluded that the excessive rotation caused the spacecraft’s batteries to drain, leading to a loss of power in the communication system and rendering the spacecraft unrecoverable.
- NASA convened an Anomaly Review Board in February 2026 to evaluate recovery efforts and assess the spacecraft’s condition.
- The final root cause of the anomaly remains under investigation, and the review board is expected to submit its final report later in 2026.
- The mission provided crucial insights into the evolution of Mars’ atmosphere and helped scientists better understand the planet’s geological and climatic history.

Zojila Tunnel: 13.153-km High-Altitude Himalayan Road Tunnel Nears Completion
- The Zojila Tunnel is a 153-kilometre road tunnel being constructed in the Himalayas at an altitude of approximately 11,578 feet (about 3,000 metres above sea level).
- The final breakthrough of the tunnel is scheduled for 9 June 2026, while full operational completion is expected by February 2028.
- The tunnel is being developed to provide all-weather road connectivity between Baltal near Sonamarg (Jammu & Kashmir) and Meenamarg in the Drass-Kargil region of Ladakh.
- The existing Zojila Pass route remains closed for several months every year due to heavy snowfall and avalanches, making year-round connectivity difficult.
- The project is being executed by Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) for the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).
- Construction of the Zojila Tunnel began in October 2020 at an estimated cost of ₹6,809.69 crore (around USD 815 million).
- Upon completion, the Zojila Tunnel will become the world’s longest single-tube bi-directional road tunnel at such a high altitude.
- The tunnel will reduce travel time across Zojila Pass from approximately 5 hours to just 15–20 minutes.
- Zojila Pass is a strategically important mountain pass that connects the Kashmir Valley with Ladakh through the Himalayan region.
- The tunnel has immense significance for defence movement, military logistics, trade, tourism, and regional connectivity in the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
- Road tunnels in high-altitude regions play a crucial role in ensuring uninterrupted civilian transportation and defence logistics throughout the year.
- Other notable high-altitude road tunnels in India include the Atal Tunnel in Himachal Pradesh and the Zojila Tunnel in the Jammu & Kashmir–Ladakh region.
- NHIDCL (National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited) is a Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).
