  • Jio Payments Bank Limited (JBPL), a subsidiary of Jio Financial Services Limited (JSFL), has partnered with fintech platform Ezeepay as a Business Correspondent (BC) to strengthen last-mile digital banking services in rural and semi-urban India.
  • The main objective of the partnership is to expand access to basic banking services through local merchant outlets, improving financial inclusion.
  • Under this collaboration, Ezeepay BC merchants will offer cash withdrawal and cash deposit services using the Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS).
  • The partnership also enables Unified Payments Interface (UPI)-based cash withdrawal services, in compliance with Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines.

SBI Cards Sells ₹1,800 Crore Stressed Credit Card Pool to Integro Finserv

  • SBI Cards and Payment Services, a listed subsidiary of State Bank of India, has sold a stressed credit card receivables pool worth around ₹1,800 crore to Integro Finserv, a Mumbai-based NBFC.
  • The transaction is aimed at reducing non-performing assets (NPAs) and improving asset quality amid rising credit card delinquencies.
  • This is one of the largest bad loan sales by SBI Cards in the last four years, highlighting increased focus on stress asset resolution.
  • The company earlier executed a similar sale of ₹200 crore in 2022, indicating a growing trend of portfolio clean-up measures.
  • SBI Cards manages a large credit card receivables book of around ₹60,000 crore with an ~18% market share, making it one of the top three credit card issuers in India.
  • The firm has over 20 million active credit cards, reflecting its strong presence in the retail lending segment.
  • In recent months, banks have increased retail NPA sales, rising to ₹24,814 crore (Dec 2025) from ₹9,093 crore (Sept 2025), showing efforts to clean up balance sheets.

Reserve Bank of India Issues Final Revised Lending Norms for Urban Co-operative Banks to Simplify Credit Rules and Strengthen Risk Management

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued final revised lending norms for Urban Co-operative Banks (UCBs) to simplify credit regulations and strengthen risk management.
  • The directions titled Urban Co-operative Banks (Concentration Risk Management) – Amendment Directions, 2026 were issued under the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.

Key Highlights :

  • The revised framework focuses on unsecured lending limits, housing loan conditions, and enhanced transparency requirements.
  • Unsecured advances refer to loans that are not backed by sufficient collateral or realisable security, increasing credit risk exposure for banks.
  • Examples of unsecured loans include clean overdrafts, personal guarantee-based loans, and unsecured bills/cheques, while certain loans like salary-linked loans and short-term receivables (≤180 days) may be treated as secured.
  • The total unsecured loans and advances of a UCB must not exceed 20% of total loans and advances based on the audited balance sheet as of March 31 of the previous financial year.
  • For eligible banks meeting ECBA norms, small unsecured loans up to ₹50,000 (priority sector lending) will be excluded from the 20% ceiling.
  • Loans to nominal members are allowed only if permitted under bank by-laws, including consumer durable loans up to ₹2.5 lakh and loans against deposits, gold, insurance policies, and government securities.
  • A nominal member can take limited loans or act as a guarantor for up to 3 years, but does not have voting rights or dividend entitlements.
  • Tier 1 and Tier 2 UCBs will continue to have a maximum housing loan tenure of 20 years, with a moratorium of up to 24 months applicable only for under-construction properties.
  • Tier 3 and Tier 4 UCBs will determine loan tenure and moratorium based on board-approved policies.
  • RBI has also set per-borrower unsecured loan limits: ₹5 lakh (Tier 1), ₹7.5 lakh (Tier 2), and ₹10 lakh (Tier 3 & 4 UCBs).
  • These norms will come into effect from October 1, 2026, or earlier if adopted by banks.

National Stock Exchange of India Crosses 13 Crore Registered Investors, Marking Strong Growth in Retail Participation

  • The National Stock Exchange of India has crossed 13 crore unique registered investors, with the latest 1 crore investors added in just 7 months (since September 2025).

  • Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) inaugurated the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Field Training and Demonstration Centre at Burari Plains, Delhi.
  • The centre was inaugurated by Samir V Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman, DRDO.
  • The initiative aims to strengthen India’s preparedness for radiological and nuclear emergencies and improve CBRN crisis response capabilities.
  • The facility is part of the upcoming CBRN Centre of Excellence under the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS).
  • The centre includes state-of-the-art facilities such as a radiological and nuclear test bed facility, heavy ion research facility, emergency medical response units, and real-time field response units.
  • The training centre will provide specialised training to responders from the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Home Affairs, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), and other agencies.

  • The visit is part of the Lokayan-26 transoceanic training voyage, flagged off on 20 January 2026, and represents the final African stopover before the ship’s trans-Atlantic journey to the Caribbean.
  • During the port call, the Commanding Officer of INS Sudarshini will engage with maritime authorities of Cape Verde to strengthen naval cooperation and bilateral relations.

  • Type-IV composite cylinders are next-generation alternatives to traditional steel cylinders and provide up to 75% weight reduction, improving vehicle efficiency and fuel economy.
