RRB NTPC UG Selection Process 2026: Check CBT 1, CBT 2 & Stages

The RRB NTPC Undergraduate Level Selection Process 2026 under CEN 07/2026 consists of two computer-based examinations, followed by document verification and a medical examination. Candidates applying for the four 12th-level posts must qualify at each applicable stage to be considered for final selection. An important change in this recruitment cycle is that the separate Computer Based Typing Skill Test (CBTST) has been discontinued for Accounts Clerk cum Typist and Junior Clerk cum Typist. The final merit list will be prepared using normalised CBT 2 marks, subject to document verification, medical fitness and other eligibility conditions.

RRB NTPC UG Selection Process - Stages

The RRB NTPC undergraduate selection process begins with CBT 1 and progresses to CBT 2. Candidates shortlisted after the second examination are called for document verification and the prescribed medical examination.

First Stage Computer-Based Test (CBT 1)

CBT 1 is a screening examination conducted for all candidates applying for undergraduate posts. It contains 100 objective-type questions carrying one mark each. Candidates are shortlisted for CBT 2 based on their normalised CBT 1 marks.

The examination covers General Awareness, Mathematics, and General Intelligence and Reasoning. There is a negative marking of one-third mark for every incorrect answer.

CBT 1 marks are used for shortlisting and are not added to the final merit calculation.

Second Stage Computer-Based Test (CBT 2)

Candidates qualifying in CBT 1 are shortlisted for the second-stage CBT. CBT 2 contains 120 questions carrying 120 marks, with a duration of 90 minutes.

The examination tests the same three broad subjects as CBT 1, but the number of questions is higher. One-third mark is deducted for each incorrect answer.

Normalised CBT 2 marks determine the merit-based shortlisting for Document Verification. Candidates should therefore focus on improving their performance in this stage rather than treating CBT 1 as the final ranking examination.

Document Verification (DV)

Candidates shortlisted based on CBT 2 performance are called for document verification. The RRB normally shortlists candidates in a 1:1 ratio against the notified vacancies, subject to the recruitment rules.

During DV, candidates must produce original documents supporting their RRB NTPC UG educational qualifications, date of birth, category and other claims made in the application.

Medical Examination

Candidates who qualify for document verification must undergo a medical examination conducted by the Railway authorities. The medical test checks whether candidates meet the fitness and vision standards prescribed for their opted posts.

Medical fitness is essential for appointments. The required standard differs between Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Accounts Clerk cum Typist, Junior Clerk cum Typist and Trains Clerk.

Final Merit List and Empanelment

The final merit list is prepared using normalised CBT 2 marks, subject to the applicable reservation rules, vacancies, post preferences, document verification and medical fitness.

Candidates who meet all requirements may be recommended for empanelment. Final appointment is subject to verification of eligibility, character and other prescribed conditions.

Is There a Typing Test in RRB NTPC UG 2026?

No. The separate Computer Based Typing Skill Test has been dispensed with under CEN 07/2026, including for Accounts Clerk cum Typist and Junior Clerk cum Typist.

This is a change from earlier RRB NTPC recruitment cycles, where candidates applying for these two posts had to qualify in a typing test. Candidates should follow the latest notification rather than prepare using the previous cycle's selection procedure.

RRB NTPC Undergraduate Document Verification

Shortlisted candidates must attend document verification with their original certificates and the required copies. The documents generally include:

  • Class 10 certificate for date of birth proof.
  • Class 12 marksheet and passing certificate.
  • Valid photo identity proof.
  • SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS certificate, wherever applicable.
  • PwBD certificate, if applicable.
  • Ex-Servicemen documents, where applicable.
  • NOC for candidates employed in government or public-sector organisations, where required.
  • Other certificates supporting claims made in the application.

The documents must match the details submitted in the application. Any discrepancy or failure to produce required certificates may lead to disqualification.

RRB NTPC Post-Wise Medical Standards

Candidates must meet the medical standards assigned to their selected post. The standards under CEN 07/2026 are as follows:

Undergraduate Post

Medical Standard

Commercial cum Ticket Clerk

B-2

Accounts Clerk cum Typist

C-2

Junior Clerk cum Typist

C-2

Trains Clerk

A-3

The medical examination includes vision-related requirements and other prescribed fitness checks. Candidates should read the detailed medical standards in the notification, particularly if they have any vision-related concerns. Medical suitability for one post does not automatically establish eligibility for another post.

RRB NTPC Undergraduate Final Selection Process

The final selection depends primarily on normalised CBT 2 performance and the candidate's eligibility for the allotted post. CBT 1 is only a screening stage and its marks are not added to the final merit.

The RRB considers the candidate's merit position, category, post preferences and available vacancies while preparing the selection recommendations. Candidates must also clear document verification and the relevant medical examination. Empanelment does not mean that every shortlisted candidate will automatically receive an appointment; all prescribed conditions must be satisfied.
