• PhonePe, India’s largest UPI app by market share, is set to launch its first local international operations in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
• Indian Bank has received Board approval to open a representative office in Dubai, UAE, to expand its overseas operations and strengthen its presence in West Asia.
• The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) unveiled two new digital-payment products, UPI Tap & Pay and MyUPI, at the Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai.
• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) launched “Demat 2.0”, a pilot framework for tokenising corporate bonds using Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) and the RBI’s Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC).

• Citi launched eFPI@Citi, a digital solution designed to reduce the Foreign Portfolio Investor (FPI) registration time in India to just 5 business days.
• The Ministry of Finance (MoF) notified a new framework under Section 10A of the Payment and Settlement Systems (PSS) Act, 2007 governing charges on Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and RuPay debit-card transactions.
• IIFL Finance Limited successfully completed a ₹25 crore tokenised bond transaction on 15 September 2026, becoming the first Non-PSU Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC) in India to undertake such a transaction.
• India moved to 4th position globally in terms of foreign exchange (forex) reserves, surpassing Russia, with reserves of around USD 786 billion.

• Karnataka Bank has launched the Capital Gains Account Scheme (CGAS) to provide taxpayers with a convenient and compliant way to deposit unutilised capital gains while planning eligible reinvestments.
• Axis Bank has launched the “ARISE Homecoming” initiative to provide career opportunities in India to Indian students and professionals who have gained education or early work experience abroad.
• IndusInd Bank has launched a corporate credit card directly linked to businesses’ existing Overdraft (OD) and Cash Credit (CC)
• SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) has extended the compliance deadline for existing Angel Funds to implement the Accredited Investor mandate from 8 September 2026 to 31 March 2027.
• UCO Bank and ScoreMe Solutions have launched “GST Smart”, a digital lending solution that uses GST filing data to support faster and more data-driven credit decisions for MSMEs.
• Automated Teller Machine (ATM) is a computerised machine that allows bank customers to access their accounts, withdraw cash, and perform various financial and non-financial transactions without visiting a bank branch.
• Indian banks, including their overseas branches, are permitted to extend loans to non-residents against FCNR(B) deposits mobilised under the RBI Swap Facility for FCNR(B) Deposits.
• The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoC&I) reported that India’s combined Merchandise and Services exports reached an estimated USD 399.27 billion during April–August 2026 (FY27), registering a growth of 55% year-on-year.
• Agriculture and allied activities recorded 6% Gross Value Added (GVA) growth in Q1 FY27, down from 4.4% in Q1 FY26, according to data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).
• The Central Government revised the taxation framework for petroleum product exports, reducing both the export levy and windfall tax on diesel with effect from 1 September.
• National Investment and Infrastructure Fund Limited (NIIF), India’s sovereign-anchored alternative asset manager, announced the first closure of NIIF Infrastructure Fund II at ₹19,000 crore ($2 billion).
• Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data showed that Non-Resident Indian (NRI) deposit inflows declined 24% to $2.78 billion in Q1 FY27 (April–June 2026), compared with $3.61 billion in Q1 FY26.
• IDFC FIRST Bank priced a $350 million five-year senior notes issue, marking its second overseas bond issuance.
• Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data showed that outward remittances under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS) by resident individuals increased 9% year-on-year to $2.5 billion during April–June FY27, mainly driven by higher international travel and overseas investments.
• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) became a net buyer of US dollars in June, purchasing $561 million, compared with a net sale of $6.10 billion in May.

• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI)’s outstanding net short dollar position in the forward market rose sharply to a record US$136.77 billion by July-end 2026, from US$103.33 billion at June-end.
• The Dutch central bank (De Nederlandsche Bank – DNB) relocated 86 metric tonnes of gold from New York and Ottawa to London between March and August, citing crisis preparedness amid global political unrest.
• Public-sector banks (PSBs) are exploring partnerships for issuing co-branded credit cards, with smaller PSBs seeking to leverage the scale, technology and distribution networks of larger state-owned banks that already have established credit-card operations.

• India Photonics Association (IPA) was launched at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, as India’s first independent, ecosystem-led industry body dedicated to the photonics sector.
• The National Statistics Office, under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, released “Unincorporated Sector at the District Level: Insights from Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises 2025” for the first time.
• India will host the World Circular Economy Forum 2026 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, from 15 to 18 September 2026.

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the two-day International Conference on ‘The Future of Environment and Climate Dynamics’ organised by the National Green Tribunal in New Delhi.
• Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will launch the Thaaimaman Thanga Mothiram Scheme on 28 September 2026, under which newborns delivered in government hospitals will receive a one-gram gold ring.

• Djibouti became the 72nd country and 8th African nation to sign the Artemis Accords on 14 September 2026 at NASA Headquarters, Washington, USA.

• Saima Wazed resigned as the Regional Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) South-East Asia Region on 9 September 2026, with her resignation taking immediate effect.
• IFFCO-TOKIO General Insurance appointed Tatsuya Fujimoto as its new Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
• Sanjukta Parashar, a senior 2006-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, took charge as Inspector General (IG) of the Central Reserve Police Force’s (CRPF) Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA).
• The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) reconstituted the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with 18 members on 16 September 2026.

• NITI Aayog released the India Electric Mobility Index (IEMI) 2025 in New Delhi, ranking Delhi as the top-performing State/Union Territory in electric mobility adoption.

• Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi visited the United Arab Emirates to attract investments and strengthen Odisha’s trade and business ties with the United Arab Emirates.
• Digital Bharat Nidhi, under the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, signed an agreement with the Government of Jharkhand for implementation of the Amended BharatNet Program under the State-led model.
• Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA), Jamnagar, an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of AYUSH, and Heartfulness Institute signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen cooperation in Ayurveda, integrative healthcare, education, research, training and environmental sustainability.
• Drydocks World, a DP World company, and Cochin Shipyard Limited signed a Joint Venture Agreement to operate, consolidate and expand the International Ship Repair Facility in Kochi, Kerala.
• Chief Ministers of six States — Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi — signed the Kishau Multipurpose Dam Project agreement for the rejuvenation of the Yamuna River.

• India’s Dhruva Space Private Limited and France’s Safran Space have signed contracts worth more than €5 million for a larger project involving the development and deployment of 275 satellites.
• Scientists from ICAR–National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), Karnal and B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar produced a healthy female calf of Uttarakhand’s indigenous Badri cattle breed using OPU-IVF technology.
• Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is expanding into AI infrastructure through its subsidiary HyperVault AI Data Center Ltd.
• The New Delhi Declaration, adopted at the 18th BRICS Summit, supports the establishment of a BRICS network of Training Hubs and Centres of Excellence (CoEs) for mental health.
• Google introduced AlphaGenome Atlas, an AI-powered database designed to help scientists understand how genetic changes affect the human genome.

• Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Earth Sciences Dr. Jitendra Singh virtually inaugurated India’s 51st state-of-the-art Doppler Weather Radar (DWR) at Sambalpur, Odisha, on 17 September 2026.
• Coal India Limited (CIL) has incorporated a wholly owned subsidiary, CIL Global Pte. Ltd., in Singapore to pursue overseas opportunities in critical minerals and diversify beyond its traditional coal business.

• Researchers from the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) and the Uluberia Botanical Institute Herbarium, West Bengal, recorded Ophiopogon japonicus (Thunb.) Ker Gawl. for the first time in India.
• A multi-institutional research team led by the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) discovered a new subterranean, legless amphibian species, Gegeneophis chandgadi, in the Northern Western Ghats of Maharashtra.
• Researchers from Mizoram discovered a new stream-dwelling frog species named Ingerana aizawl along the Hratdawng Stream on the Mizoram University campus, Aizawl, Mizoram.

• Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas, popularly known as ‘Alla Nani’, was a former Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and Health Minister who passed away at the age of 56 in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, reportedly due to cardiac arrest.
