• Union Minister of State (MoS) Pabitra Margherita, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), undertook an official visit to Vietnam and Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR/Laos) from 26–29 August 2026.
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi undertook a two-day state visit to Uzbekistan from 29 to 30 August 2026, at the invitation of Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Uzbekistan.
• The 4th Meeting of the India–Denmark Joint Working Group (JWG) was held in Copenhagen, Denmark, from 24 to 28 August 2026.
• The 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) was held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, from 17 to 28 August 2026.

• Lahore, Pakistan’s cultural hub, has been named the Tourism and Cultural Capital of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) for 2026–27.
• The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has warned that global warming is likely to cross the 1.5°C threshold by the end of this decade, posing a major setback to the temperature goal of the 2015 Paris Agreement.
• India and Germany signed a Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) on the Conservation and Wise Use of Wetlands of International Importance during the 4th Indo-German Environment Forum (IGEF).
• Türkiye officially became the 71st country to join the United States-led Artemis Accords, which promote safe, peaceful, transparent and sustainable exploration of the Moon, Mars and beyond.

• India’s industrial growth stood at 6.7% in July 2026, compared with 8.8% in June 2026, indicating a slowdown in industrial activity.
• Kissht, a Reserve Bank of India (RBI)-registered Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC), launched its new brand campaign titled ‘Loans Without Any Hiccups’ featuring Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.
• India’s Financial Inclusion Index (FI-Index) increased from 53.9 in 2018 to 67 in 2026, indicating deeper access to credit, insurance, savings and digital payments.
• India’s rice exports to 26 priority markets reached ₹23,476 crore and 4.79 million tonnes during November 2025–March 2026.

• India’s Current Account Deficit (CAD) widened to USD 4.2 billion, or 5% of GDP, in Q1 FY2026–27 (April–June 2026), compared with USD 3.4 billion, or 0.4% of GDP, in Q1 FY2025–26.
• India’s Gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections increased by 8% year-on-year to ₹1,99,853 crore (nearly ₹2 lakh crore) in August 2026, according to official data released on 1 September 2026.
• Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) launched two new non-linked, non-participating insurance plans—LIC Bima Platinum (Plan 770) and LIC Jeevan Raksha (Plan 894)—to mark its 70th anniversary.

• Air Vice Marshal Shakti Sharma created history by becoming the first woman officer from the non-medical stream in the Indian Defence Forces to attain the rank of Air Vice Marshal, or an equivalent two-star rank.
• Air Marshal KAA Sanjeeb AVSM VSM assumed charge as the Air Officer-in-Charge Maintenance (AOM) of the Indian Air Force (IAF) on 1 September 2026.

• The Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, Government of India, signed a five-year agreement with the Centre for Development of Telematics to establish a state-of-the-art End-to-End Optical Network Test Bed.
• The Central Industrial Security Force and the Drone Federation of India signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the Central Industrial Security Force Headquarters to strengthen counter-drone capabilities.
• Bihar and Jharkhand signed a Memorandum of Understanding for sharing the waters of the Sone River in the presence of Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah.

• A tripartite agreement was signed among the Sports Authority of India, Badminton Association of India and Sports Authority of Assam for establishing a National Centre of Excellence for Swimming in Assam.
• The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board and Energy Efficiency Services Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding to facilitate demand aggregation and promote the deployment of smart domestic Piped Natural Gas meters across the City Gas Distribution sector.

• The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Punjab to undertake a research study on developing a Predictive and Analytical Framework for Monthly Consumption Expenditures in India.

• The Singapore Corporate Counsel Association and the General Counsels’ Association of India signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen ties between the in-house legal communities of Singapore and India.

• Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav inaugurated a 2-day International Workshop in New Delhi held from 2–3 September 2026.
• Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on biofuels, biomass utilisation, waste-to-resource solutions and circular economy initiatives.
• Tata Elxsi and Sarla Aviation, an advanced air mobility company, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the development of “Shunya”, a six-seater plus one pilot Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
• Forum of Indian Food Importers (FIFI) and Eastern India Culinary Association (EICA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote culinary activities, industry outreach and global food and beverage products across Eastern and North-Eastern India.

• The Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and CivicDataLab to strengthen risk-informed and data-driven disaster risk reduction in Odisha.
• Government e Marketplace (GeM) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Textiles Committee (TC) under the Ministry of Textiles signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote recycled and upcycled textile products through government procurement.

CURRENT AFFAIRS: ACQUISITION AND MERGERS

• State Bank of India (SBI) and its subsidiary SBI Capital Markets Ltd (SBICAP) plan to dilute up to 1% stake in the National Stock Exchange (NSE) through its proposed ₹30,000-crore IPO.

• ICICI Bank Limited acquired an additional 2% stake in its life insurance venture, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company Limited, for approximately ₹1,470 crore through the stock exchange mechanism.

• Scientists from multiple institutions, including the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) and Thackeray Wildlife Foundation, reported a new subterranean fish species named Gangaichthys indonepalicus.

• Dehing Patkai National Park, located in Assam, recorded 165 butterfly species, including 37 endangered species, during a 2026 biodiversity survey.

• China reportedly tested a new variant of the YJ-18A anti-ship cruise missile, featuring a black radar-absorbing coating designed to improve its radar evasion and penetration capabilities.

• CosmoCube is a proposed suitcase-sized satellite being developed by an international team led by the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom (UK).
• Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) was launched on 18 February 2016 to provide affordable crop insurance and protect farmers against losses caused by natural calamities, adverse weather, pests and diseases.

• Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Dr. Jitendra Singh, Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), launched the 5th edition of Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar 2026 (SSSS v5.0) in New Delhi, Delhi.
• The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Ayush, has launched ‘AyurVarta’, a special digital dialogue series on Ayurveda.

• The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched the Earth observation satellite EOS-05 aboard the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV)-F17 rocket on 4 September 2026.
• The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), collaborated with Intel India to organise a National Leadership Dialogue at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
