Indian Navy’s Next-Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels To Get Advanced EON-51 Systems As Ministry of Defence Inks Rs 642 Crore Deal With Bharat Electronics Limited

• The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed a Rs 642.17 crore contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the procurement of 28 EON-51 Electro Optical Fire Control Systems (EOFCS).
• These systems will be integrated into 11 Next-Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels (NGOPVs) and three Cadet Training Ships, significantly enhancing their operational capabilities.

Key Highlights:

• The EOFCS utilizes Electro Optical and Thermal Imagers for the search, detection, and classification of targets.
• The NGOPVs are being built by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) and Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) under contracts finalized in March 2023 worth Rs 9,781 crore.
• GSL is responsible for constructing 7 vessels, while GRSE will build the remaining
• These vessels will be equipped with state-of-the-art features, including a hangar for a multi-role helicopter and provisions for operating unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
• The NGOPVs are designed to have a length of 110 meters, a displacement of 2,900 tonnes, a maximum speed of over 25 knots, and an operational range of more than 8,500 nautical miles at an economical speed of 14 knots.
• Delivery of these vessels is scheduled to begin in September 2026.

• Born in 1928 in Taktser village, located in the Amdo region of Tibet, Thondup was the second-eldest among the Dalai Lama’s six siblings. ‘

• Moreover, promoting women's equal access to full employment and respectable jobs should be a priority.
• The General Assembly recognized in a resolution on science, technology, and innovation for development adopted on December 20, 2013, that women and girls should have full and equal access to and participation in science, technology, and innovation in order to achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. It is necessary for girls and women of all ages.
• In 2015, the United Nations General Assembly declared 11 February as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
• On 11 February 2025, we will celebrate its 10th anniversary together at UNESCO Headquarters.

• In 1992, Pope John Paul II established the day to urge people to pray for individuals who are ill and their caretakers.
• The pope showed signs of Parkinson’s disease in 1991, but it wasn’t verified until 2001, therefore, it’s notable that he opted to establish the World Day of the Sick barely a year after his diagnosis.
• In his apostolic letter “Salvifici Doloris”, the pope wrote extensively on the subject of suffering and considered that it has always been a redeeming process through Christ.
• On February 11, 1993, the first World Day of the Sick was observed.
• The World Day of the Sick had a particular significance in 2005 because the ailing pope died on April 2 of that year.
• As he lay dying in St. Peter’s Square in Rome, a large crowd assembled to pray for him.
• On this day in 2013, Pope Benedict XVI announced his resignation, citing his poor health as the cause for his departure. On World Day of the Sick, people all across the world take the opportunity to pray for the sick and those who labor tirelessly to alleviate their pain.
