National Stock Exchange of India Limited Facilitates India’s First Tokenised Corporate Bond Issuances Worth ₹1,000 Crore

• National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE) enabled India’s first tokenised bond issuances worth ₹1,000 crore on its Electronic Bidding Platform (NSE EBP).
• The tokenised bond issuances were conducted under the SEBI Regulatory Sandbox Framework, 2020.
• The technology was formally launched by Sanjay Malhotra, Governor of RBI, and Tuhin Kanta Pandey, Chairman of SEBI, in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
• REC Limited and Larsen & Toubro (L&T) raised a combined ₹1,000 crore, with ₹500 crore each, under the SEBI Regulatory Sandbox framework.
• REC Limited had a base issue size of ₹100 crore with a greenshoe option of ₹400 crore.
• REC’s tokenised bond issue received an overall subscription of 7.9 times the base issue and accepted ₹500 crore at a 7.30% coupon rate.
• Larsen & Toubro (L&T) also completed a ₹500 crore tokenised corporate bond issuance, marking private-sector adoption of tokenisation technology.
• The tokenised bond issuances use Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) to digitally represent and manage securities.
• DLT-based tokenisation enables atomic settlement, greater transparency, and improved operational efficiency across the securities lifecycle.

State Bank of India to Leverage UPI Data for Lending to Small Businesses Without GST Registration

• State Bank of India (SBI) is developing a lending solution using UPI transaction data as a proxy for sales to provide loans to small businesses without GST registration.
• The initiative was highlighted by Ashwini Kumar Tewari, Managing Director, SBI, at the Global Fintech Fest.
• SBI already provides business loans in about 10 minutes to customers having GST registration, PAN and other required data.
• SBI has disbursed around ₹1 trillion (₹1 lakh crore) through such automated business loans over the past one-and-a-half years.
• The new challenge is to extend automated lending to businesses outside the GST system by using UPI transaction data and other payment behaviour, subject to customer consent.
• UPI transaction data can provide a digital trail of sales activity, helping lenders assess the creditworthiness of small businesses without GST registration.
• Wallets were also suggested as a potential way to reduce pressure on banking infrastructure, with transactions of up to ₹100 potentially being handled through wallets.
• Voice-based, multilingual and AI-driven services could further simplify access to credit, allowing customers to request loans in ordinary language and have their requests converted into the bank’s required processes.

Bank of Baroda Mobilises $8 Billion Through FCNR(B) Deposits, Surpassing Initial Target

• Bank of Baroda (BoB) mobilised $8 billion through Foreign Currency Non-Resident (Bank) [FCNR(B)] deposits under the RBI’s special concessional swap scheme.
• BoB’s $8 billion mobilisation exceeded its initial target of $4–5 billion.
• The special concessional swap scheme was introduced by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in June to boost foreign currency inflows amid pressure on the Indian rupee.
• The RBI initially made the special FCNR(B) facility available until the end of September, but later shortened the window by one month due to the strong response.
• When the window closed on 31 August, banks had collectively mobilised $127.2 billion through FCNR(B) deposits.
• Among banks that announced their mobilisation figures, ICICI Bank raised $17.9 billion, while RBL Bank and IDFC First Bank mobilised $3.4 billion and $3.6 billion, respectively.
• Bank of Baroda entered the mobilisation exercise with a strong liquidity position, with its Liquidity Coverage Ratio (LCR) at 126.94% during April–June.
• BoB’s 126.94% LCR was well above the regulatory requirement, indicating a strong liquidity position.

novio and Indian Overseas Bank Launch Co-Branded RuPay Credit Card to Expand Formal Credit Access

• novio, a consumer credit platform operated by Credilio Financial Technologies, has partnered with Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) to launch a co-branded RuPay credit card.
• The co-branded card primarily targets UPI-active customers and first-time credit users, aiming to expand access to formal credit beyond traditional credit-card users.
• The card offers instant digital onboarding and an FD-backed credit facility, helping customers with limited or no formal credit history access a credit card.
• The co-branded credit card will be available in two variants — RuPay Select and RuPay Platinum.
• The card was unveiled by Joydeep Dutta Roy, Executive Director of Indian Overseas Bank, and Aditya Gupta, Founder & CEO of novio, at the Global Fintech Fest 2026 at the NPCI Pavilion.
• The partnership is part of novio’s broader expansion strategy following its recent ₹100-crore Series A funding round.
• The ₹100-crore Series A funding was led by Cornerstone Ventures, with participation from Shepherd’s Hill Private Equity, ESV-Arthya AIF, and Roots Ventures.
• novio has also raised venture debt from Innoven Capital and Alteria Capital.

Net systematic investment plan Inflows Reach Record ₹2 Trillion in FY26 Despite Rise in Account Closures

• Net systematic investment plan (SIP) inflow surged to a record ₹2 trillion in FY26 (2025–26) despite a rise in SIP account closures amid equity market turbulence, according to SEBI’s annual report.
• In FY26, net SIP inflow accounted for 56% of gross SIP investments of ₹3.5 trillion, marking the highest share in at least three years.
• In FY25, net SIP inflow accounted for 54% of gross SIP investments.
• Net SIP inflow is calculated by subtracting redemptions from gross SIP investments.
• The monthly SIP inflow figures released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) represent gross SIP investments.
• The strong net SIP inflow indicates that although SIP account closures increased, they did not result in a sharp increase in redemptions.
• SIP redemptions/outflow in FY26 were estimated at ₹1.5 trillion, compared with ₹1.3 trillion in FY25.
• SIP redemptions increased by 15% in FY26, but this was the slowest growth in the last three years.
• SIP outflow had grown by 57% in FY24 and 18% in FY25, showing a significant moderation in FY26.
• The 15% rise in redemptions in FY26 was significantly lower than the 21% increase in gross SIP inflows during FY25.
• Gross SIP inflows continued to increase in FY26, while redemptions grew at a slower pace, supporting the rise in net SIP inflows.
• Despite strong gross SIP inflows, net SIP account additions were affected by the equity market correction.
• SIP accounts increased by only 4 million in FY26, compared with nearly 17 million net additions in FY25, according to SEBI data.
• The equity market remained turbulent since September 2024, affecting the pace of new SIP account additions.
• Over the two-year period ending March 2026, the Nifty 50 declined by more than 5%, while the Nifty Smallcap 250 remained flat.
• During the same two-year period, the Nifty Midcap 150 gained 6%.

Ministry of External Affairs Revises Passport Validity Rules for Children Below 15 Years

• The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has notified the Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026, amending the Passports Rules, 1980.
• The amendment was notified on 15 September 2026 and published in the Gazette of India.
• The amendment modifies Rule 12(1A) of the Passports Rules, 1980, relating to the validity of ordinary passports issued to children.

Key Highlights

• Under the new rules, an ordinary 36-page passport issued to a child below 15 years of age will be valid for five years from the date of issue or until the child attains 18 years of age, whichever is earlier.
• The revised validity provision came into force from the date of publication in the Official Gazette.
• The amendment also revises Rule 8, which deals with passport application fees.
• Fees payable for different categories of passport applications will be as specified in Schedule IV of the amended rules.
• The changes follow the Ministry of External Affairs' revision of passport-related service charges from 1 July 2026.
• The revised charges cover fresh passport applications, passport renewals, Tatkaal services, replacement of lost or damaged passports, Police Clearance Certificates and other passport-related services.
• The fee for a 36-page fresh or reissue passport for minors under the normal category has increased from ₹1,000 to ₹1,750.
• The fee for a 36-page fresh or reissue passport under the Tatkaal category has increased from ₹3,000 to ₹4,250.
• A 10% discount on fresh passport applications continues to be available for children below 8 years of age and senior citizens above 60 years of age.
• The 10% discount does not apply to passport reissue applications.
• The revised rules therefore introduce a new validity framework for ordinary passports issued to children below 15 years, while the updated fee structure applies to various passport-related services.

Ladakh Inaugurates World’s Highest-Altitude Twin Flower Fields in Leh

• On Sewa Diwas (September 17), Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena inaugurated and dedicated the world’s highest-altitude twin flower fields in Leh to the people.
• The twin flower fields are located at Choglamsar and Stakna in Leh, at an altitude of 10,600 feet.
• The fields were inaugurated to mark the 76th birth anniversary of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
• The two flower fields are not only the world’s highest-altitude flower fields, but are also described as the highest and largest flower fields in India.
• The flower fields cover 40 acres and contain more than 25 lakh high-value flowers, including 24 lakh Lilium and 1 lakh Gladiolus.

Key Highlights

• The project is the first experiment of this size and nature at high altitude in Leh, and its successful implementation has created scope for replicating the model in other parts of Ladakh.
• The initiative aims to promote agricultural diversification, farmer empowerment and alternative livelihood opportunities through commercial floriculture.
• The Choglamsar flower field was developed in a record time of two months. Plantation began on 16 July 2026, while the first blooms appeared in the first week of September 2026.
• At the Stakna flower field, plantation of nearly 14 lakh Lilium began in August 2026, with the first bloom expected around the end of October 2026.
• Lilium is sold at around ₹60–70 per stick in wholesale markets, while retail prices are higher.
• The Choglamsar Flower Park will function as a demonstration and model floriculture centre, cultivating high-value flowers such as Lilium, Gladiolus, Tulips and other ornamental species with demand in national and international markets.
• The project will create a sustainable income source for Ladakh’s farming community through Self-Help Groups and cooperative societies.
• During the first year, the Agriculture Department will develop the flower fields and, during the flowering stage, transfer them to selected Self-Help Groups and cooperative societies.
• From the second year onwards, the cooperatives will undertake commercial cultivation, harvesting and value addition of Lilium flowers themselves.
• The Flower Garden will be opened to the general public from 18 September 2026.

• The survey provides insights into Swedish companies’ perspectives on doing business across international markets and compares economic performance, business outlook and operating conditions.
• Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal shared the survey findings, highlighting India’s business climate amid a challenging global economic environment.
• The 2026 edition covers 41 markets and provides a comparative assessment of business conditions relevant to Swedish companies operating internationally.
• The survey examines both challenges faced by companies and opportunities for companies considering entry into new markets or expansion of existing operations.
• The survey findings indicate continued positive sentiment among Swedish companies operating in India.
• The 2026 Business Climate Survey, based on insights from more than 200 Swedish companies in India, reported continued optimism about the Indian market.
• India’s 1st rank highlights the scope for deeper commercial engagement between India and Sweden through trade, investment and business partnerships.

Gwalior to Become a Major Telecom Manufacturing Hub with Asia’s 1st Telecom Manufacturing Zone

• Gwalior is set to emerge as a major telecom manufacturing hub with the establishment of Asia’s 1st Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ), involving an investment of approximately ₹5,500 crore and expected to generate more than 18,000 direct employment opportunities, according to the Ministry of Communications.
• Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia inspected the site identified for the proposed Telecom Manufacturing Zone at Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Counter Magnet City (SADA) in Gwalior, along with the Secretary, Department of Telecommunications, and other senior officials.
• Scindia stated the project is not about setting up a single industrial unit but about creating a complete industrial ecosystem comprising 24–25 telecom manufacturing units in Gwalior.
• Around 170 acres of land has been identified for the 1st phase of the proposed Telecom Manufacturing Zone, including more than 90 acres in SADA and over 70 acres in the Information Technology Park, according to the Ministry of Communications.

• Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Counter Magnet City (SADA) was originally established as a Counter Magnet City with the objective of developing Gwalior as a new industrial centre and a counter-magnet to Delhi.
• The proposed Telecom Manufacturing Zone seeks to build on this vision by establishing a dedicated telecom manufacturing ecosystem in the city.
• The Department of Telecommunications and the Madhya Pradesh Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in July 2026 for establishing the Telecom Manufacturing Zone.
• This was followed by investor roadshows in Delhi and Mumbai in August 2026, led by Jyotiraditya Scindia and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.
• The Delhi roadshow attracted investment commitments of approximately ₹3,500 crore, with the potential to generate around 14,000 employment opportunities, while the Mumbai roadshow attracted commitments of approximately ₹2,000 crore, with around 4,000 employment opportunities, according to the Ministry of Communications.
• 24 companies have initiated the application process to establish manufacturing units in the proposed Telecom Manufacturing Zone.
• The Department of Telecommunications has also proposed a Common Testing Lab package worth approximately ₹500 crore, which is expected to provide testing infrastructure for telecom manufacturing units in the zone.
• The Gwalior airport has been developed at a cost of approximately ₹650 crore in a record 16 months, further strengthening air connectivity with major cities including Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, according to the Ministry of Communications.

With this Google Cloud India set to deploy the AI solutions for crowd management, traffic prediction, emergency response and the pilgrim assistance. 3rd National Conference of Anti-Narcotics Task Force Heads to be Held in New Delhi

• Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah will inaugurate the 3rd National Conference of Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Heads of States and Union Territories in New Delhi.
• On the occasion, Amit Shah will release Television Commercials (TVCs) to spread awareness against drugs and lay the foundation stones for new complexes of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Zones in Lucknow and Dehradun.
• The best-performing Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) among the States and Union Territories will also be felicitated during the event.
• The revamped Narcotics Control Bureau website will also be launched during the event.

Key Highlights

• The two-day conference, organised by the Narcotics Control Bureau, will be attended by the Heads of Anti-Narcotics Task Forces from 36 States and Union Territories, along with representatives from other concerned government departments and stakeholders.
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set the goal of “Viksit Bharat” by 2047, and the source states that achieving this vision is not possible without building a drug-free India.
• The conference will serve as a platform to safeguard future generations from the menace of drugs.
• The conference is based on the theme “United Resolve, Shared Responsibility”.
• It will focus on the progress of targets assigned to State and Union Territory Anti-Narcotics Task Forces in the recently released Vision Document on Narcotics Control (2026–2029).

₹320 Crore Strategic Investment Plan Approved for Kurukshetra ITI Cluster under Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs

• The National Steering Committee (NSC) of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has approved a Strategic Investment Plan (SIP) worth ₹320 crore for the Kurukshetra Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Cluster in Haryana under the Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs (PM-SETU) Scheme.
• Jindal Naveen Avsar Limited will partner with the Government of Haryana as the Anchor Industry Partner for the Kurukshetra ITI Cluster.
• With this approval, the cumulative investment sanctioned under PM-SETU has increased to ₹2,491 crore across 10 ITI clusters, reinforcing the Government’s commitment to transforming Industrial Training Institutes into industry-led, future-ready centres of excellence aligned with evolving workforce requirements.

• The approval marks another significant step towards strengthening the industry-led transformation of Government Industrial Training Institutes and creating a more demand-driven vocational training ecosystem.
• Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, stated that the Kurukshetra ITI Cluster will be developed under the Hub-and-Spoke model envisaged under PM-SETU and will comprise 7 Government Industrial Training Institutes.
• Government Industrial Training Institute, Kurukshetra will serve as the Hub ITI.
• The following 6 Government Industrial Training Institutes will function as the Spoke ITIs:

• The scheme aims to ensure that vocational training remains aligned with emerging technologies and evolving labour market demands.
• As the Anchor Industry Partner, Jindal Naveen Avsar Limited will work closely with the Government of Haryana and participating ITIs to strengthen industry linkages and improve students’ access to practical training, apprenticeships and employment opportunities.
• Jindal Naveen Avsar Limited is already associated with the Barbil ITI Cluster in Odisha, where a Strategic Investment Plan worth ₹240 crore has been approved under PM-SETU.
• The company’s participation in both the Kurukshetra and Barbil ITI Clusters reflects growing industry confidence in the scheme’s vision of industry-led skilling transformation.
• PM-SETU is a flagship Government of India initiative aimed at enhancing the quality, relevance and outcomes of vocational training, has a total outlay of ₹60,000 crore.
• The scheme envisages the upgradation of 1,000 Government Industrial Training Institutes through an industry-led Hub-and-Spoke model, comprising 200 Hub ITIs and 800 Spoke ITIs across the country.

25th Shanghai Cooperation Organization Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Foreign Economic and Trade Activities Held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan

• The 25th Meeting of Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Member States Responsible for Foreign Economic and Trade Activities was held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on 17 September 2026.
• The meeting reviewed economic and trade cooperation among SCO Member States and discussed measures to further deepen trade and economic cooperation.

Key Highlights :

• Representation: India was represented by Shri Yashvir Singh, who highlighted the economic potential of the SCO and stressed intra-SCO trade, lower trade costs, resilient supply chains and enhanced connectivity.
• India highlighted the three key pillars of Security, Connectivity and Opportunity, based on the vision articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the SCO Summit in Bishkek.
• India stressed trade facilitation and digitalisation, including simplified customs procedures, paperless trade and electronic exchange of documents.
• India called for stronger cooperation in agriculture, critical minerals, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing and electronics to strengthen supply chains.
• India highlighted cooperation in energy security, renewable energy and green hydrogen.
• India emphasised digital payments, cross-border payments and accessible trade finance to support MSMEs and start-ups in regional and global trade.
• India called for greater participation of SCO economies in global value chains and reaffirmed support for an open, inclusive and rules-based multilateral trading system, with the WTO at its core.
• The Ministers adopted the Statement of the Ministers of the SCO Member States Responsible for Foreign Economic and Foreign Trade Activity.
• The Ministers agreed on the Action Plan for 2026–2030 for implementing the Programme of Multilateral Trade and Economic Cooperation of SCO Member States, subject to approval by the Council of Heads of Government.
• The Ministers approved the Regulations on the Special Working Group of SCO Member States on the Development of the Creative Economy.
• The Ministers took note of the activities of the SCO Business Council and the work of the SCO Consortium of Economic Analytical Centres.
• Next Ministerial Meeting: The next meeting will be held in 2027 in Uzbekistan.

• The appointed Judicial Officers were recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium on 10 September 2026.
• Delhi High Court: Nivedita Anil Sharma and Nisha Sahay Saxena were appointed as Judges.
• Delhi High Court – Additional Judges: Sanjay Sharma, Bharat Parashar, Dr. Aditi Choudhary, Dinesh Bhatt, and Arun Bhardwaj were appointed as Additional Judges.
• Aditi Choudhary was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court from the date she assumed charge until 23 April 2028.

• The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the reappointment of Kamlesh Chandra Varshney as a Whole-Time Member (WTM) of Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) beyond 19 September 2026.
• As per the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) order dated 15 September 2026, Varshney will continue as SEBI WTM until he attains the age of 65 years on 4 August 2029, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
• Kamlesh Chandra Varshney is a 1990-batch Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax) officer.
• Before joining SEBI, he served as Joint Secretary, Tax Policy and Legislation, in the Department of Revenue (DoR), Ministry of Finance (MoF).
• He took charge as a Whole-Time Member of SEBI on 20 September 2023 and has been reappointed beyond the completion of his existing tenure on 19 September 2026.
• At SEBI, he handled departments including the Market Intermediaries Regulation and Supervision Department, Legal Affairs Department (LAD1), Integrated Surveillance Department, and Information Technology Department.
• Varshney spent 5 years assisting Papua New Guinea’s tax administration in areas including investigations and capacity building.

• Gondhal, a Marathi thriller directed by Santosh Davakhar, has been selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars 2027 in the Best International Feature Film category.
• The selection was announced by the Film Federation of India.
• Gondhal was chosen from 33 submitted films, including films in Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Gujarati, Tamil, Malayalam, Konyak and Nepali, along with one silent film.
• The film’s director Santosh Davakhar had earlier won the Silver Peacock Award at the International Film Festival of India 2025.

• The 36-year-old Savita Punia, popularly known as “The Wall of India” for her shot-stopping abilities and performances in penalty shoot-outs, made her senior international debut in 2009.
• Since her debut, Savita has represented India at 3 Olympic Games and 2 Asian Games, besides competing at the Commonwealth Games, Asian Champions Trophy and FIH Pro League.
• Savita also served as the long-time captain of the Indian women’s hockey team before Salima Tete took over as captain.
• Savita reached her 300th international cap in February 2025 against the Netherlands in the FIH Hockey Pro League.

• Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) handed over 2 LCA Tejas Final Operational Clearance (FOC) Twin-Seater Trainers and 3 HTT-40 Basic Trainer Aircraft to the Indian Air Force (IAF), along with 4 Dhruv Next Generation (NG) helicopters to Pawan Hans Limited (PHL) on 18 September 2026 in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
• The handover ceremony was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu.
• A contract for 16 LCA Tejas fighter aircraft and 4 twin-seater trainers in FOC configuration was placed between the IAF and HAL in 2010.
• The 2 LCA FOC Twin-Seater Trainers handed over on 18 September 2026 are the final two aircraft under the FOC twin-seater contract.
• The LCA Tejas Twin-Seater Trainer will support the IAF’s pilot training requirements and provide an indigenous training continuum from trainee pilots to frontline fighter operations.
• The Tejas Twin-Seater retains the core systems and combat capability of the frontline Tejas fighter, allowing pilots to train on the aircraft they will eventually operate.
• Four Dhruv Next Generation (NG) helicopters were handed over to Pawan Hans Limited (PHL), marking the induction of the civil-certified Dhruv NG into the civil aviation segment.

About Dhruv NG :

• The Dhruv NG is a 5-tonne, light twin-engine, multi-role helicopter developed by HAL for demanding operating conditions in India and upgraded for the global civil aviation market.
• The Dhruv NG has a configurable cabin for civilian roles such as VIP/VVIP transport, passenger and utility operations, HEMS, and air ambulance services.
• The Dhruv NG can also be used for offshore operations, law enforcement, disaster relief, search and rescue, and emergency services.

• The Hindustan Turbo Trainer-40 (HTT-40) is an indigenously designed and developed basic trainer aircraft intended to meet the primary training requirements of the Indian Defence Services.

• The HTT-40 features a modern cockpit and avionics suite and supports aerobatics, general handling, instrument flying, navigation, night flying, and close formation flying.

• The Steel Cutting Ceremony of the second ship of the Next Generation Missile Vessel (NGMV) Project was held at Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), Kochi, on 17 September 2026.
• RAdm Kapil Mehta, Assistant Controller of Warship Production & Acquisition, was the Chief Guest at the ceremony.
• Senior officials from the Indian Navy and Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) were also present at the ceremony.
• The contract for construction of NGMVs was concluded with Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) in March 2023.
• The NGMVs will be equipped with state-of-the-art weapons and sensors, which will significantly enhance the combat capabilities of the Indian Navy.
• The NGMVs will contribute to developing the Indian Navy as a “Future Ready and Combat Ready Force”.

Combined Operational Review and Evaluation Programme 2026 Concludes at Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi

• The Combined Operational Review and Evaluation (CORE) Programme 2026 was organised by Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS) and conducted by the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS).

INS Trishul Makes Port Call at Alexandria, Egypt, from 14–17 September 2026

• INS Trishul, an Indian Navy guided missile frigate, made a port call at Alexandria, Egypt, from 14 to 17 September 2026 as part of its deployment.
• On arrival at Alexandria Harbour, INS Trishul received a warm welcome, with Egyptian Naval Ship (ENS) Al Qadeer escorting the Indian ship.
• The Commanding Officer and crew of INS Trishul paid homage to the Bravehearts of the two World Wars at the Chatby War Memorial in Alexandria.
• The Chatby War Memorial contains 12 burials and bears the names of 19 Indian soldiers who died in ships sunk in the Eastern Mediterranean.
• Suresh K. Reddy, Ambassador of India to Egypt, visited INS Trishul and interacted with its crew, highlighting the importance of the Indian Navy’s presence in the region.

• SPROUT stands for SpeedSeed Phenotyping and Resource Optimization for Unified Trait Analysis.
• The SPROUT facility is a state-of-the-art agricultural research facility aimed at developing climate-resilient crops through precise trait evaluation under varied environmental conditions.
• SPROUT is a season-independent, controlled-environment facility designed for high-throughput phenotyping, precision stress screening, and evaluation of germplasm, breeding populations, mutants, transgenic lines, and genome-edited lines.
• The facility will initially focus on chickpea crops and integrate genomics, genome editing, and phenotyping to accelerate trait validation and improve breeding efficiency.
• SpeedSeed technology used at SPROUT can reduce crop cycles to around 40 days, enabling faster agricultural research and crop improvement.

• M. Sudarsana Natchiappan, former Union Minister and senior Indian National Congress (INC) leader, passed away at his residence in Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu, at the age of 78.

About E.M. Sudarsana Natchiappan :

• He was born on 29 September 1947 in Eriyur, Sivaganga district, Tamil Nadu.
• Natchiappan entered politics through the Youth Wing of the Indian National Congress and held various organisational positions in Tamil Nadu.
• He served as Vice-President of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC).
• He was a lawyer by profession and practised as an advocate in the Supreme Court of India.
• He represented the Sivaganga constituency in the 13th Lok Sabha from 1999 to 2004.
• He subsequently represented Tamil Nadu in the Rajya Sabha for two consecutive terms from 2004 to 2016.
• He served as Minister of State (MoS) for Commerce and Industry from June 2013 to May 2014 during the tenure of then Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
• Natchiappan chaired the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice.
• During his chairmanship, the committee examined various issues, including the implementation of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005.
