State Bank of India secures ₹7,500 crore through Tier-2 bonds at a 7.33% interest rate
- The State Bank of India (SBI) raised ₹7,500 crore through its second Basel III-compliant Tier-2 bond issuance of the current fiscal year.
- The bonds have a coupon rate of 7.33% and a 15-year maturity with a call option after 10 years and on each anniversary thereafter.

- Investor Response:The issuance received a strong response from investors.
- It attracted bids more than three times the base issue size of ₹4,000 crore.
- 77 bids were received from a diverse group of institutional investors, including provident funds, pension funds, mutual funds, and banks.
- Previous Issuance:SBI had previously raised ₹7,500 crore through a Tier-2 bond issuance on August 28, 2024, with a coupon rate of 7.42%, a 9 basis point difference.
- This earlier issuance also carried a AAA rating with a stable outlook from CRISIL Ratings and CARE Ratings.
- Total Fundraising for FY:For the current financial year, SBI has raised a total of ₹15,000 crore through Basel III-compliant Tier-2 bonds.

- Nepal became the 101st country to join the International Solar Alliance (ISA) as a full member.
- Nepal handed over its Instrument of Ratification to the ISA in New Delhi.
- ISA supports its member countries in enhancing solar deployment to improve energy access, ensure energy security, and transition toward low-carbon growth.
- The ISA is a collaborative initiative between India and France, conceptualized during the COP21 in Paris, 2015, to combat climate change by implementing solar energy solutions.
- After a 2020 amendment to its Framework Agreement, all UN member states are eligible to join the ISA.

United States to Supply High-Altitude Anti-Submarine Warfare Sonobuoys to India
- The United States (US) has decided to sell High Altitude Anti-Submarine Warfare (HAASW) sonobuoys worth USD 52.8 million to India.
- It will enhance India’s capacity to conduct anti-submarine warfare operations from its MH-60R helicopters.
- The proposed sale will also strengthen the US-India strategic and defence relationship.
- India had urged to buy AN/SSQ-53O High Altitude Anti-Submarine Warfare (HAASW) sonobuoys; AN/ SSQ-62F HAASW sonobuoys; and AN/SSQ-36 sonobuoys.
- Sonobuoys are air-launched, expendable, electro-mechanical sensors designed to relay underwater sounds to remote processors.
- These are effective and affordable antisubmarine warfare (ASW) that are capable of being used by airborne ASW war fighters.
Algeria Granted Membership in BRICS New Development Bank
- Algeria has been granted authorization to join the BRICS New Development Bank (NDB), a multilateral development bank.
- The NDB was established in 2015 by the BRICS countries-Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa to support infrastructure and sustainable development projects in BRICS and other developing countries.
- In 2021, the NDB expanded its membership to include Bangladesh, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Uruguay.
- Algeria, as Africa's leading natural gas exporter, is expected to benefit from NDB membership through new opportunities to bolster and sustain its economic growth in the medium to long term.

- This project aims to promote India's AVGC sector and position the country as a global content hub.
- The centre will be formed as a Section 8 Company under the Companies Act, 2013.

Union Cabinet Approves One Nation One Election Proposal

- The centre is the world's first conservation and breeding centre specifically for the Asian King Vulture (red-headed vulture).
- While there are other Jatayu conservation and breeding centres for vultures in India, they cater to all breeds of vultures, unlike the Gorakhpur centre, which focuses on the Asian King Vulture.
- The Uttar Pradesh Forest Department, in collaboration with the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), established the centre.

Iran's President Appoints First Sunni Governor in 45 Years
- Iran's new president, Masoud Pezeshkian, has appointed Arash Zerehtan as the governor of Kurdistan province.
- This marks the first time in 45 years that a Sunni Muslim has been appointed as a regional governor in Iran.
- Arash Zerehtan, 48, previously served as a member of parliament representing the city of Paveh from 2020 to 2024.
- Sunnis constitute approximately 10% of Iran's population, with the majority being Shiite Muslims. Shiite Islam is the state religion of Iran.
- The appointment is significant because, since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, key positions of power in Iran have predominantly been held by Shiite Muslims, with rare representation of Sunnis.
- Masoud Pezeshkian, who assumed office in July after the death of ultraconservative President Ebrahim Raisi, has been vocal about the need for better representation of ethnic and religious minorities, including Sunni Kurds.
- In August,2024 President Pezeshkian appointed Abdolkarim Hosseinzadeh, another Sunni, as one of his vice presidents, reflecting his commitment to improving minority representation in significant governmental roles.

Anurag Garg Appointed as New Director General of Narcotics Control Bureau
- Anurag Garg has been appointed as the new Director General (DG) of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), effective from the date of assumption of charge until May 23, 2026, or until further orders.
- Garg is a 1993 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Himachal Pradesh cadre and is currently serving as Additional DG in the Border Security Force (BSF).
- The NCB head position was temporarily filled by CRPF DG Anish Dayal Singh following the retirement of the previous DG, S N Pradhan, in August.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited to Deliver Final 4 Light Combat Aircraft Mk-1 Trainer Aircraft to IAF Within Six Months
- Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will deliver the final four LCA Mk-1 trainers to the Indian Air Force (IAF) by March 31, 2025.
- The LCA Mk-1 trainers are twin-seater jets used for pilot training but can also function as fighters when required.
Key Highlights :
- Order Details: The delivery is part of an earlier order for 40 LCA Mk-1 aircraft, which includes 32 single-seater jets and 8 twin-seater trainers.
- Slow Progress: The LCA Mk-1 programme experienced delays. The Initial Operational Clearance (IOC) contract was signed in 2006 (completion by 2011), and the Final Operational Clearance (FOC) contract in 2010 (completion by 2016).
- Trainer Deliveries: HAL handed over the first LCA Mk-1 trainer in October 2023, with three more trainers delivered since then. The final four will be delivered by March 2025.
- LCA Mk-1A Programme: HAL is also working on the more advanced LCA Mk-1A variant under a ₹48,000-crore contract for 83 fighters, with delivery by 2028-29.
- Future Orders: The Defence Ministry may award HAL a contract for 97 additional LCA Mk-1A jets, worth ₹67,000 crore, by the end of 2024.
- Engine Supplies: GE Aerospace will start supplying two engines per month starting November 2024 for the LCA Mk-1A project.
- This aircraft is meant to replace the MiG-21 fighter in the IAF.
