RBI Imposes Cumulative Penalties of ₹10.34 Crore on Citibank, Bank of Baroda, and Indian Overseas Bank for Non-Compliance
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed penalties amounting to ₹10.34 crore on Citibank, Bank of Baroda (BoB, and Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) for contravention of various regulatory norms.
Basis of Action :
- The regulatory body clarified that the penalties are a result of deficiencies in regulatory compliance.
- The action does not intend to comment on the validity of any transaction or agreement entered into by the banks with their customers.
Penalties Breakdown :
- RBI imposed a fine of ₹1 crore on Indian Overseas Bank for non-compliance with certain directions issued by it on ‘loans and advances – statutory and other restrictions’.
- Citibank is fined ₹5 crore for non-compliance with various directions, including 'operational guidelines, managing risks and code of conduct in outsourcing of financial services by banks,' and 'the depositor education and awareness fund scheme, 2014.'
- A monetary penalty of ₹4.34 crore has been imposed by the RBI on the Bank of Baroda for non-compliance related to ‘loans and advances – statutory and other restrictions’, and ‘Reserve Bank of India (interest rate on deposits) directions, 2016’.

HSBC India Collaborates with UK Export Finance to Aid Indian MSMEs
- The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, India (HSBC India) and UK Export Finance (UKEF), the United Kingdom’s export credit agency, intend to establish a financing programme of up to £100 million to support Indian Micro, Small and Medium enterprises (MSMEs) and corporates for financing their imports from the UK.
- This partnership is expected to enhance the availability of credit for Indian MSMEs and boost trade ties between the two countries.
- HSBC India and UKEF signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to enable them to work together on opportunities relating to UKEF’s guarantee-backed structures.
- HSBC India and UKEF will work closely to originate, structure and extend financing and credit facilities to Indian MSMEs.
- India was UK’s 12th largest trading partner in the four quarters to the end of Q2 2023, accounting for 2.1% of total UK trade.

- Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Virendra Kumar inaugurated ‘Samajik Adhikarita Shivir’ for the distribution of aids and assistive devices to persons with disabilities (Divyangjan) at Himmatnagar in Sabarkantha District of Gujarat, in the presence of Shri Dipsinh Rathod, Member of Parliament, Sabarkantha, Smt. Ramila Ben Bara, Member of Parliament (Rajyasabha) local public representatives and senior officials from district administration.
- The distribution camp at Himmatnagar (Sabarkantha) was interconnected online with the other camps conducted simultaneously at 19 other locations covering 09 states across the country for distribution aids and assistive devices to more than 50 thousand pre-identified Divyang beneficiaries under the ADIP scheme of Government of India.

Petroleum Minister Hardeep Puri inaugurates floating re-fueling (CNG station for boats at Ravidas Ghat
- In a significant step towards a pollution-free Varanasi, the city’s second floating Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Mobile Refueling Unit (MRU) station at Ravidas Ghat was inaugurated by Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas & Housing and Urban Affairs Shri Hardeep Singh Puri.
- This is the country’s second such station built to fill CNG in boats, after the Namo Ghat CNG station here.
- Both the stations have been developed by GAIL (India) Limited, a Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas.
- GAIL Chairman & Managing Director Shri Sandeep Kumar Gupta, Director (Human Resources) Shri Ayush Gupta, Director (Marketing) Shri Sanjay Kumar and a host of dignitaries were present on the occasion.
- With this, floating CNG stations for boats are now operational on both sides of the main Ghats of Varanasi.
- The floating stations have been developed by GAIL at a cost of approx. Rs 17.5 crore.
- In a world grappling with environmental challenges and the urgent need to transition to cleaner, more sustainable energy sources, the inauguration of the second floating infrastructure in Varanasi is a significant step towards viable sustainable energy solutions
- 735 such boats out of 890 registered with VNN have been converted to CNG under GAIL’s CSR program at a cost of Rs 18 crore.
World’s first 3D printed temple comes up in Telangana's Siddipet
- The world’s first 3D-printed temple has been unveiled by Telangana.
- The world's first 3D-printed temple is a ground-breaking structure located at Burugupally in Siddipet district.
- The innovative construction, achieved through a three-month 3D printing process, is a significant technological milestone.
- Spread over 4,000 square feet and situated at a height of 35.5 feet, this temple has three different parts.
- Especially, the temple consists of three sanctums, each dedicated to a different deity.
- These sanctums include a modak dedicated to Lord Ganesha, a square Shivalay dedicated to Lord Shankar, and a lotus-shaped sanctuary for Goddess Parvati.
- These sacred spaces were carefully designed using locally developed materials and software as well as an in-house system.
- The sanctum sanctorum demonstrates the ingenuity of 3D printing technology, the remaining elements of the temple, such as pillars, slabs, and floors, were created using traditional building techniques.
- The temple, has been built by Hyderabad Apsuja Infratech in collaboration with additive manufacturing solutions provider Simpliforge Creations.
Survey of India, Genesys tie up for 3D digital twin-mapping programme in India
- Survey of India (SoI) and Genesys International, a leading Indian mapping company, announced a strategic tie-up for a three-dimensional (3D) digital twin-mapping programme in India.
- It is a virtual depiction of a real-world entity, be it a product, process, person or location, capable of comprehending and gauging its tangible counterparts.
- The twin digital copy will also help policymakers understand how infrastructure will function in different situations, such as high-footprint events, an increase in population, or natural disasters.
- The strategic partnership aims to create digital twins of major cities and towns, leveraging Genesys’ all-India highly accurate navigable maps.
- The Genesys constellation of sensors and SOI's recently launched Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) network allow for real-time high-precision positioning data.
- The Survey of India was set up in 1767.

UAE Unveils World's Largest Single-Site Solar Power Plant in Anticipation of COP28
- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has inaugurated the world's largest single-site solar power plant ahead of the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28).
- The 2-gigawatt Al Dhafra Solar Photovoltaic Independent Power Project (IPP) is located 35 kilometres from Abu Dhabi city and will generate enough electricity to power almost 200,000 homes.
- The plant is expected to displace 2.4 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
- The project was inaugurated by Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi, and in the presence of Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior.
Key Highlights :
- The project was developed by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) and its partners Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA), EDF Renewables and JinkoPower.
- It was procured by Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC).
- The plant uses almost 4 million solar panels which deploy innovative bi-facial technology, ensuring sunlight is captured on both sides of the panels to maximize yield.
- The project broke records in terms of cost for utility-scale solar projects. Initially, the project led to one of the most competitive tariffs for solar power set at AED 4.97 fils/kWh (USD 1.35 cents/kWh), which upon financial close, was further improved to AED 4.85 fils/kWh (US$ 1.32 cents/kWh).
- The inauguration of Al Dhafra Solar PV is a key step in the UAE's transition to clean energy.As the countdown to COP28 continues, leaders reiterated their commitment to tripling renewables capacity and doubling energy efficiency by 2030, with Al Dhafra serving as a model for global ambition in clean energy initiatives.
- The project aligns with the UAE's Net Zero 2050 goal, reinforcing its leadership in solar energy production on a per capita basis.
- The project is also a testament to the UAE's commitment to hosting a successful COP28.
- The country will host the United Nations Climate Change Conference from November 30th to December 12, 2023.

Indian Mission to ASEAN Hosting ASEAN-India Millet Festival in Jakarta
- The Indian Mission to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), along with the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, is hosting the ASEAN-India Millet Festival in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta from November 22-26, 2023, as part of the 'International Year of Millets 2023'.
- The food festival started by showcasing culinary skills through innovative millet dishes and featuring participation from Millet-based Food Producer Organisations, and start-ups.
- The 5-day festival is strategically organized in alignment with the ASEAN-India Joint Leaders’ Statement on Strengthening Food Security and Nutrition.
- The exhibition will also feature 5 Indian FPOs, namely Citi Block FPC, Jewargi Taluka Millets FPC, Bhumitrajalalpur, Vaam Agro, and Lambasingi Tribal Products FPC, and two start-ups namely Taru Naturals and Sattva Millets and Food Products (Mibbles) exhibiting unique millet-added products such as millet cookies, namkeen, khakhra, cakes, and more.

- Saffron from the mountainous Kishtwar district has been granted the Geographical Indication (GI) tag by the Geographical Indications Registry.

- The saffron is cultivated in the highlands of Jammu and Kashmir.
- This spice is grown in parts of Kashmir as well as the Kishtwar region of Jammu.
- The most expensive crop, saffron (also known as kumkum), is also a major cash crop in Kishtwar, the isolated hill district of Jammu.
- The cultivation of saffron in Kishtwar is a cultural heritage, representing values of freshness and purity.

Bandhan Bank board approves re-appointment of Chandra Shekhar Ghosh as its MD for 3 years
- Bandhan Bank's board has approved the reappointment of Chandra Shekhar Ghosh as the Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer (MD&CEO) for a period of 3 years.
- The reappointment is subject to approval by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
- If approved, the reappointment will be effective from July 10, 2024.
- Chandra Shekhar Ghosh's current tenure as MD & CEO of Bandhan Bank is set to expire on July 09, 2024.
- Regulatory provisions require the submission of the application for reappointment to the RBI at least 6 months before the expiry of the current term.
Financial Performance (July–September Quarter) of Bandhan Bank :
- Bandhan Bank reported a net profit of Rs 721.20 crore, marking a significant YoY increase of 244%.
- Gross Non-Performing Asset (GNPA) in the reporting quarter increased by 14.8% YoY, reaching Rs 7,874 crore.
- Net Interest Income (NII) was reported at Rs 2,443.40 crore.
- Total income for the quarter increased to Rs 5,032 crore, up from Rs 4,250 crore in the same period last year.
Comparison with Previous Quarters :
- Gross NPA in the current quarter increased compared to the previous quarter, standing at Rs 7,874 crore from Rs 6,961 crore.

Anish Shah Elected as FICCI President for the Term 2023-24

- The announcement took place during a recent FICCI National Executive Committee Meeting.
- He would succeed Subhrakant Panda as President of the apex Chamber at the conclusion of the 96th Annual General Meeting to be held on December 8-9 in the capital.

- The Nepal Army contingent, consisting of 334 personnel, has arrived in India for the 17th edition of the Joint Military Exercise SURYA KIRAN.
- This annual event takes place alternatively in India and Nepal, and this year, it will be conducted in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, from 24th November to 7th December 2023.
Composition and Leadership of Contingents :
- The Indian Army contingent, led by a Battalion from the KUMAON Regiment, comprises 354 personnel.
- On the other side, the Nepal Army contingent is represented by the Tara Dal Battalion.
Objectives and Focus Areas of the Exercise :
- The primary aim of SURYA KIRAN is to enhance interoperability in jungle warfare, counter-terrorism operations in mountainous terrain, and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief under the United Nations Charter for peacekeeping operations.
- The exercise will focus on the use of drones and counter-drone measures, medical training, aviation aspects, and environmental conservation.

Indian Armed Forces Contingent Embarks on Joint Military Exercise "AUSTRAHIND-23"
- The 2nd edition of Joint Military Exercise AUSTRAHIND-23 is being conducted between the Indian and Australian army contingents.
- On 22 November 2023 the Indian Armed Forces contingent of 81 personnel arrived in Australia for exercises.
- The exercise is being conducted in Perth, Australia from 22 November to 06 December 2023.
Participating Contingents :
- The Indian Army team includes 60 soldiers from a battalion of Gorkha Rifles.
- The Australian Army contingent of 60 personnel is from the 13th Brigade.
- From the Indian side, an officer of the Indian Navy and 20 personnel of the Indian Air Force are also participating in it.
- The Australian contingent includes 20 personnel each from the Royal Australian Navy and the Royal Australian Air Force.
Background and Planning :
- In 2022, the exercise AUSTRAHIND was launched, and the first edition was held in Mahajan, Rajasthan.
- It is planned to make it an annual training program to be conducted alternately in India and Australia.
- The exercise aims to foster collaborative partnerships and share best practices between both sides.
- The exercise will also promote interoperability while conducting multi-sector operations in urban and semi-urban areas under UN Chapter VII on Peacekeeping Operations.
- The joint exercise will promote exchange of ideas and jointly rehearse tactics, technique and procedures for conducting tactical operations.
- Training curriculum also includes sniper firing, and jointly operating surveillance and communication equipment to achieve a high degree of situational awareness.
- Casualty management and evacuation will also be rehearsed besides tactical actions at Company/ Battalion level.
- The exercise will also help in promoting understanding between the two militaries and further strengthen the defence cooperation between the two friendly nations
Other Exercises between India and Australia :
- Exercise AUSINDEX: It is a biennial bilateral maritime exercise between the Indian Navy and Royal Australian Navy (RAN).

- Exercise Pitch Black: It is a biennial multilateral air combat exercise hosted by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) since 1981.

Indian Navy & DRDO test indigenously developed naval anti-ship missile
- Indian Navy in association with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted the Guided Flight Trials of the first indigenously developed Naval Anti-Ship Missile from Sea King 42B helicopter.
- It is an important step towards achieving self-reliance in niche missile technology.
Key Highlights :
- The missile integrates various advanced technologies including an indigenous launcher for the helicopter and guidance system comprising cutting-edge navigation and integrated avionics.
- Earlier in October,2023 the reports arrived that DRDO is all set to test the much-anticipated long-range anti-ship missile (LRASM), that would enhance the Navy’s capabilities, especially in the realm of ship-based missile systems with extended range.
- This missile has a range of around 500 kilometres, which is more than the range of 350-400 kilometres of the Russian cruise missile BrahMos.
- Even in May 2022, India tested its first indigenously built anti-ship missile falling in the short-range category weighing around 380 kilograms with a range of 55 kilometres.
- Named ‘Naval Anti-ship Missile-short range’ (NASM-SR), they can be launched from attack helicopters.
About MRSAM test :
- In March 2023, the Indian Navy successfully conducted MRSAM (Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile) firing from INS Visakhapatnam validating the capability to engage 'Anti Ship Missiles'.
- The Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile, was jointly developod by Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) at Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL).
About MRSAM:
- MRSAM can hit multiple targets at a range of 70 kilometres.
- Combat Management System (CMS), Mobile Launcher Systems (MLS), Advanced Long Range Radar, Mobile Power System (MPS), Radar Power System (RPS), Reloader Vehicle (RV), and Field Service Vehicle comprise the missile system, which is powered by an indigenously developed rocket motor and control system (FSV).

NIDM, TERI sign strategic partnership in disaster risk reduction
- The National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) to forge a strategic partnership in disaster risk reduction.
- Executive Director of NIDM Rajendra Ratnoo, that this partnership signifies a joint commitment to contribute to the national agenda of disaster risk reduction, reinforcing the importance of collaboration in building a resilient and safer India.
- The MOU will serve as a platform to formalise the strategic partnership and facilitate research, capacity building, and training.
- According to NIDM currently 260 universities and institutions are part of the disaster risk reduction programme.

- In Shooting, Indian shooter Anish Bhanwala won the bronze medal in the men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol event at the ISSF World Cup Final 2023 in Doha, Qatar.
- Competing at the Lusail Shooting Range, Anish Bhanwala scored 27 out of 35 for third place in the final.
- It was also the first medal for India in the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol event in the ISSF World Cup Final history.
- The ISSF World Cup Final 2023 is being held for rifle, pistol, and shotgun shooters.

- In the World 6 Red Women Snooker Championships, Vidya Pillai secured Gold to clinch the title of World Champion.
- In the final, she defeated compatriot Anupama Ramachandran by 4-1 frames, who settled for Silver.
- Vidya earlier defeated top seed Bai Yulu of China by 4-3 frames in semi-final round.
Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur launches mascot, logo, jersey & theme song for Khelo India Para Games
- Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur launched the mascot, logo, jersey and theme song for the first-ever Khelo India Para Games at a function in New Delhi.
- Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Nisith Pramanik was also present on the occasion.
The first-ever Khelo India Para Games will be held from 10th to 17th of next month. - Over 1400 participants from across 32 states and Union Territories including Services Sports Control Board are expected to participate in the maiden Khelo India Para Games.
- The Para athletes will compete for honours in 7 disciplines including para athletics, para shooting, para archery, para football, para badminton, para table tennis and para weight lifting.
- The events will be held in Indira Gandhi Stadium, Shooting Range in Tughlaqabad and the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
- Khelo India Para Games aims to provide an opportunity for aspiring para-athletes to showcase their skill and develop their career in para-sports.

- Bollywood's veteran filmmaker and director Rajkumar Kohli, father of actor Armaan Kohli, passed away at the age of 93.
About Rajkumar Kohli :
- Rajkumar was famous for directing several popular Bollywood films such as the 1966 Dulla Bhatti and the 1970s Lootera starring Dara Singh and Nishi (Nishi later married Kohli).
- He was famous for directing several Bollywood films including the 1966 movie Dulla Bhatti and the 1970s film Lootera starring Dara Singh.
- His other notable films included films with ensemble casts, such as Nagin (1976), Jaani Dushman (1979), Badle Ki Aag, Naukar Biwi Ka and Raaj Tilak (1984).
- His films frequently featured actors such as Sunil Dutt, Dharmendra, Jeetendra, Shatrughan Sinha, and actresses Reena Roy and Anita Raj.
- In the early 1990s, Kohli introduced his son Armaan Kohli in the multi-starrer action film Virodhi (1992).
- He directed his son again in Aulad Ke Dushman (1993) and Qahar (1997).
- After a hiatus, he returned in 2002 and relaunched his son in another film in the style of his classic 1970s films Nagin and Jaani Dushman titled Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani.
India's Pioneer Female Supreme Court Justice, Justice Fathima Beevi, Passed Away
- Justice M. Fathima Beevi, the first woman judge to be appointed to the Supreme Court of India, passed away at the age of 96.
About Justice Fathima Beevi :
- Fathima Beevi was born on 30 April 1927 in Pathanamthitta in the Kingdom of Travancore, now in the Indian state of Kerala.
- Beevi was enrolled as Advocate on 14 November 1950.
- She topped the Bar Council exam in 1950.
- She began her career in the lower judiciary in Kerala.
- She was appointed the Munsiff in the Kerala Sub-ordinate Judicial Services in May, 1958.
- She was promoted as the Subordinate Judge in 1968 and as the Chief Judicial Magistrate in 1972, as District & Sessions Judge in 1974.
- In January 1980, Beevi was appointed the Judicial Member of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal.
- She was then elevated to the High Court as a Judge on 4 August 1983.
- Beevi became a permanent Judge of the High Court on 14 May 1984.
- She retired as the Judge of the High Court on 29 April 1989.
- In 1989, she became the first female judge to be a part of the Supreme Court of India, and the first Muslim woman to be appointed to any of the higher judiciary in the country.
- On her retirement from the court, she served as a member of the National Human Rights Commission and later as the Governor of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu from 1997 to 2001.
Awards & Honors :
- She received D. Litt. and Mahila Shiromani Award in 1990.
- She was awarded the Bharat Jyoti Award and the US-India Business Council (USIBC) Lifetime Achievement Award.
- In 2023, she was honoured with Kerala Prabha Award, the second-highest honour given by the Government of Kerala.
