Reserve Bank of India keeps window open for Rs 2,000 notes exchange; 98.18% returned to banking system
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has kept the window open for the exchange and deposit of ₹2,000 notes, with an impressive 98.18% of the total value already returned to the banking system.
- As of now, only ₹6,471 crore worth of these notes remain in circulation since their withdrawal announcement on May 19, 2023.
- Initially, the facility for deposit and exchange at banks was available until October 7, 2023.
- However, from October 9 onward, RBI offices have continued accepting ₹2,000 notes for deposit into bank accounts.
- Individuals can either send these notes to RBI offices via India Post or deposit them directly at RBI offices in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Jammu & Kashmir, Kanpur, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Thiruvananthapuram.

- The Union Government has released funds under the Fifteenth Finance Commission (XV FC) Grants for Rural Local Bodies (RLBs) in West Bengal for the Financial Year 2024–25.
The disbursed amount includes: - ₹694.44 crore as the 2nd installment of Untied Grants
- ₹4.93 crore as the withheld portion of the 1st installment of Untied Grants
These funds are allocated for the development of:
- 21 District Panchayats
- 326 Block Panchayats
- 3220 Gram Panchayats
Purpose of the XV FC Untied Grants
- The Untied Grants are intended to meet location-specific needs as identified by the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs). These grants can be used under the 29 subjects listed in the Eleventh Schedule of the Constitution, with the exception of: Salaries, Establishment Costs
Tied Grants Usage
In addition to Untied Grants, the Tied Grants are allocated for basic services, including:
