Karnataka clears projects worth Rs 3,500 crore, aims to generate 24,954 jobs

  • The Karnataka government has approved 69 projects with a total investment of Rs 3500.86 crore during the 152nd meeting of the state-level monitoring committee.
  • These projects approved under the leadership of Minister for Large, Medium Industries, and Infrastructure Development M B Patil are expected to create employment opportunities for approximately 24,954 people across the state, a statement from the minister's office stated.
  • Among the notable approvals are Jyoti CNC Automation Limited, which plans to invest Rs 285 crore on a machine tool centre with an employment of 3,394 people, and Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Ltd plans to invest Rs 250 crore in manufacturing of soaps and detergents.
  • Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages Private Limited plans to invest Rs 249 crore in manufacturing of beverages.
  • With these projects, Patil reaffirmed the government's commitment to facilitating industrial investments and strengthening Karnataka's economy by supporting high-impact projects that drive sustainable development and job creation.
  • According to the minister's office, 12 projects with capital investments exceeding Rs 50 crore, totaling Rs 2311.88 crore are set to generate employment for approximately 18,972 people and 55 projects with investments between Rs 15 crore and Rs 50 crore, amounting to Rs 1148.98 crore, are expected to provide employment for around 5,832 people while two schemes with a capital investment of Rs 40 crore is expected to create employment for 150 people.

  • Mumbai-based fintech and insurance professional Swaminathan S. Iyer, 57, has been appointed as a Whole-time Member (Life) of Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).
  • This is the first time a private-sector professional has been selected for this role, breaking the tradition of appointing executives from LIC.
  • The appointment was made by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
  • Iyer previously served as Executive Vice President – Head Legal, Company Secretary, and Regulatory Affairs & ESG at Tata AIA Life Insurance.
  • He has over 34 years of experience in the life insurance sector.
  • His term will last five years or until he turns 62, whichever comes first.
  • The position had been vacant since October 2024 following the resignation of BC Patnaik.

Indian Air Force To Participate In Multi-Nation Air Exercise Iniochos-25

  • The Indian Air Force (IAF) will be participating in Exercise INIOCHOS-25, a prestigious multi-national air exercise hosted by the Hellenic Air Force.
  • The exercise will take place at Andravida Air Base, Greece, from 31 March 2025 to 11 April 2025.

Key Highlights :

  • The IAF contingent will include Su-30 MKI fighters along with combat enabler IL-78 & C-17 aircraft.
  • INIOCHOS is a biennial multinational air exercise hosted by the Hellenic Air Force.
  • It serves as a platform for air forces to hone their skills, exchange tactical knowledge, and strengthen military ties.
  • The exercise will integrate multiple air and surface assets from fifteen countries under realistic combat scenarios, designed to simulate modern-day air warfare challenges
  • The IAF looks forward to participating in Exercise INIOCHOS 25, a platform to enhance international cooperation, synergy and interoperability among participating Air Forces.

‘Operation Brahma’: India sends two C-17 aircraft, more relief aid to quake-hit Myanmar

  • Two C-17 aircraft, carrying a 118-member Indian Army Field Hospital Unit along with 60 tonnes of relief material, have landed in Myanmar as part of India’s Operation Brahma following the devastating 7-magnitude earthquake that struck the country on March 28, 2025.
  • Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal provided details of the operation, stating that the unit also includes Women and Child Care services.
  • India’s swift response highlights its commitment to being a first responder in regional crises, reaffirming its leadership in humanitarian aid both within its neighborhood and beyond.
  • Additionally, a second C-130 aircraft landed in Naypyitaw, carrying the remaining 38 personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) along with 10 tonnes of relief material.
  • The MEA further stated that two more C-17 aircraft, carrying 60 Para Field Ambulances, would arrive shortly.
  • As part of the relief effort, the Indian Army will establish a 60-bed Medical Treatment Centre to provide immediate care to those injured.
  • The facility will be equipped to handle trauma cases, emergency surgeries, and essential medical services to support the local healthcare system, which has been severely strained by the disaster, the Indian Army added.
  • According to early modeling by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the death toll from the disaster could exceed 10,000.

Isar Aerospace completes first orbital launch vehicle test flight in Norway

  • A rocket by a private European aerospace company launched from Norway and crashed into the sea 30 seconds later.
  • Despite the short test flight, Isar Aerospace stated that it successfully completed the first test flight of its orbital launch vehicle by launching its Spectrum rocket from the island of Andya in northern Norway.
  • The 28-metre-long Spectrum is a two-stage launch vehicle specifically designed to put small and medium satellites into orbit.
  • The rocket lifted off from the pad at 12:30 pm (1030 GMT) on March 30, 2025 and flew for about a half-minute before the flight was terminated, Isar stated.
  • After the flight was terminated at T+30 seconds, the launch vehicle fell into the sea in a controlled manner.
  • The company had largely ruled out the possibility of the rocket reaching orbit on its first complete flight, saying that it would consider a 30-second flight a success.
  • Isar Aerospace aims to collect as much data and experience as possible on the first integrated test of all the systems on its in-house-developed launch vehicle.
  • Isar Aerospace is separate from the European Space Agency, or ESA, which is funded by its 23 member states.
  • ESA has been launching rockets and satellites into orbit for years, but mainly from French Guiana, an overseas department of France in South America and from Cape Canaveral in Florida.

Gangotri and Yamnotri Dhams Portals in Uttarakhand to open on April 30

  • The portals of Gangotri Dham in Uttarakhand will open on the 30th of April this year.
  • A decision to this effect was taken by the Shri Gangotri Temple Committee at a meeting at Mukhwa, the winter residence of Maa Ganga.
  • The doors of Yamnotri Dham will also open on the same day.
  • With this, the Char Dham Yatra will begin in the state.
  • Gangotri Temple Committee Secretary Suresh Semwal told that the auspicious time for opening the doors of Gangotri Dham was decided on Sunday, the first day of Navratri of Hindu New Year and Chaitra Shukla Pratipada.
  • The doors of Yamunotri Dham will also be opened for devotees on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya.
  • However, the auspicious time for opening the doors will be decided on the occasion of Yamuna Jayanti on April 6.
  • The portals of Kedarnath will be opened on May 2 and the doors of Badrinath Dham will be opened on May 4. 

New Economic Data Portal by National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog & National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), to Be Unveiled in New Delhi

  • National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog, in collaboration with the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), has developed a portal as a comprehensive repository of data on social, economic, and fiscal parameters.
  • The portal covers State Finances for a period of about 30 years (1990-91 to 2022-23).
  • Hon’ble Finance Minister Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman will launch the “NITI NCAER States Economic Forum” portal on 1st April 2025 in New Delhi.
  • The portal consists of four main components:
    • State Reports – Summarises the macro and fiscal landscape of 28 Indian States, covering demography, economic structure, socio-economic, and fiscal indicators.
    • Data Repository – Offers access to a complete database, categorised into five verticals: Demography, Economic Structure, Fiscal, Health, and Education.
    • State Fiscal and Economic Dashboard – Provides graphical representations of key economic variables, access to raw data, and summary tables.
    • Research and Commentary – Features extensive research on State finances, fiscal policy, and financial management at both State and national levels.
  • The portal will facilitate:
    • Understanding macro, fiscal, demographic, and socio-economic trends.
    • Easily accessible data in a user-friendly format.
    • Consolidation of sectoral data in one place.
    • Benchmarking State data against national figures and other States.
    • Providing a platform for policymakers, researchers, and analysts for informed debates and discussions.
  • It will serve as a comprehensive research hub, offering:
