International Finance Corporation Commits USD 371 Million to Sify Infinit Spaces for AI-Ready Green Data Centre Expansion in India
- The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private-sector arm of the World Bank Group (WBG), pledged USD 371 million to Sify Infinit Spaces Limited (SISL).
- Sify Infinit Spaces Limited (SISL) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sify Technologies Limited.
- The funding aims to support the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-ready and energy-efficient Data Centre (DC) infrastructure in India.
- The total financing package amounts to USD 371 million.
- Out of the total commitment, IFC will provide USD 71 million as a loan, equivalent to approximately ₹675 crore.
- The remaining up to USD 300 million will be mobilized from other lenders.
- The financing has been structured as a sustainability-linked financing package.
- Under the project, Sify will establish two next-generation Data Centres (DCs) in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, and Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
- The proposed facilities will be developed in accordance with Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Platinum Standards.

World Bank Sanctions ₹4,000 Crore Funding for Haryana’s Jal Sanrakshit Haryana Water Conservation Project
- The World Bank approved a ₹4,000 crore loan for Haryana's ‘Jal Sanrakshit Haryana’ Project, aimed at making the state water-secure and self-reliant in the water sector.
- The total cost of the Jal Sanrakshit Haryana Project is ₹5,714 crore.
- The project will be implemented in phases from 2026 to 2032.
- The initiative focuses on improved water management, water conservation, and efficient water distribution across Haryana.
Key Highlights :
- The project covers 15 clusters spread across 48.94 lakh acres of land in Haryana.
- Village-level Water Committees will be formed to participate in the development and maintenance of water channels.
- A dedicated maintenance fund will be created for water channels with financial support from the Haryana Government.
- The project includes the rehabilitation of the remaining 678 canals across Haryana.
- Out of the 678 canals, 106 canals will be rehabilitated with World Bank assistance at a cost of ₹2,484.87 crore.
- 293 canals will be restored through State Government funding at a cost of ₹2,230 crore.
- 279 canals will be rehabilitated under projects supported by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).
- The programme will rehabilitate 620 water channels, benefiting approximately 18 lakh acres of agricultural land.
- A total of 120 canal-based micro-irrigation projects will be upgraded under the initiative.
- The upgraded micro-irrigation projects will extend irrigation benefits to nearly 56,830 acres.
- The project includes the reclamation of about 2 lakh acres of waterlogged land.

- To strengthen groundwater recharge, 147 water bodies will be developed.

- The Mombasa Declaration was adopted by 15 countries from Africa, Asia, Europe, the Caribbean, and the Pacific to strengthen global efforts against Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing.
- The declaration was adopted during the 11th Our Ocean Conference held in Mombasa, Kenya.
- The primary objective of the Mombasa Declaration is to improve transparency, accountability, and international cooperation in fisheries governance.
- The declaration calls on governments to improve access to information regarding fishing vessels, vessel ownership, licensing, and fishing activities.
- It also emphasizes strengthening data-sharing mechanisms to improve monitoring, tracking, and enforcement of fisheries regulations.
- The declaration supports the Global Charter for Fisheries Transparency, which contains 10 policy principles aimed at improving fisheries governance.
- Key reforms promoted under the charter include modernizing vessel registries and publishing fishing authorizations.
- Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing is estimated to cost the global economy up to US$50 billion annually.

- The facility has been established with an investment of approximately ₹32 crore.
- The project has been implemented by the Eastern Ri-Bhoi Organic Farmer Producer Company Limited (FPC), a farmer-owned enterprise.
- The unit has been set up under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCD-NER).

Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Approves ₹150 Crore for India’s First Private Hybrid Second-Generation Ethanol Biorefinery
- The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) approved ₹150 crore financial assistance for India's first private-sector 91 Kilo Litres Per Day (KLPD) Hybrid Second-Generation (2G) Ethanol Biorefinery at Wave Sugar, Dhanaura, Uttar Pradesh.
- The financial assistance has been approved through the Centre for High Technology (CHT) under the Pradhan Mantri JI-VAN (Jaiv Indhan-Vatavaran Anukool Fasal Awashesh Nivaran) Yojana.
- The project aims to support commercial-scale production of Second-Generation (2G) Ethanol from agricultural residues such as bagasse and crop stalks.
- The integrated biorefinery will convert underutilized biomass waste into clean transportation fuel, helping reduce stubble burning and environmental pollution.
- The project will combine:
- Biomass gasification technology.
- Advanced gas fermentation technology.
- Ankur Scientific will provide the biomass gasification technology that converts biomass into synthesis gas (syngas), consisting mainly of carbon monoxide, hydrogen and carbon dioxide.
- LanzaTech's gas fermentation platform will convert gaseous carbon into ethanol using naturally occurring microorganisms.
- Spray Engineering Devices Limited (SED) will undertake the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) work and thermal integration of the project.

- The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune, Maharashtra, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES), Nainital, Uttarakhand, to establish a long-term climate observation station under the Bharat Climate Observation Network (BCON).
- The MoU was signed on 18 June 2026 through online mode by A. Suryachandra Rao, Director of IITM, and Manish Kumar Naja, Director of ARIES.
- The proposed BCON Climate Observation Station will be established at Devasthal, Nainital district, Uttarakhand.
- The agreement has a validity of more than 50 years, making it a significant long-term initiative for climate and atmospheric research.
- The project aims to strengthen climate monitoring and scientific research under Mission Mausam, an initiative of the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES).
- The station will conduct long-term monitoring of:
- Meteorological parameters
- Greenhouse gases
- Short-lived climate forcers

- A key focus of the meeting was Aatma-Nirbharta (Self-Reliance) in Information Technology (IT) and the time-bound adoption of cutting-edge technologies.
- Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) deliberated on important policy decisions related to the use of disruptive technologies in Defence Services amid the changing nature of warfare.
- The Committee discussed the changing paradigm of warfare and the increasing role of advanced digital technologies in defence preparedness.
- Members deliberated on the indigenisation of advanced chip manufacturing for strengthening India's technological self-reliance.
- The development of a sovereign Operating System (OS) was a major topic of discussion during the meeting.
- The Committee also considered the development of a sovereign Database (DB) to enhance data security and strategic autonomy.
- Discussions included the strategic siting of data centres to meet the requirements of the Defence Forces.
- The DITCC granted clearance to several projects with far-reaching benefits for both the Defence Forces and the nation's technological ecosystem.

Indian Navy Eastern Fleet Warships INS Udaygiri and INS Kavaratti Reach Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
- INS Udaygiri is a stealth frigate of the Indian Navy and is indigenously designed and constructed.
- INS Kavaratti is an Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Corvette of the Indian Navy and is also indigenously designed and constructed.
- INS Udaygiri and INS Kavaratti arrived at Nha Rong Port, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on 22 June 2026 during their operational deployment to the South East Asia region.
- The deployment was led by Rear Admiral (RAdm) Alok Ananda, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet (FOCEF).
- The Indian warships received a warm ceremonial welcome from the Vietnam People's Navy, representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) People’s Committee, and port authorities.
- The visit highlighted the close and longstanding ties between the Indian Navy and the Vietnam People's Navy.
- The port call reflects the growing maritime partnership between India and Vietnam.
- During the visit, both navies will conduct professional interactions, cross-deck exchanges, sporting fixtures, and community outreach activities.

- Honda Motor Co., Ltd. is a limited liability joint stock corporation incorporated under the Companies Act of Japan as Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha.
- Honda Motor Co., Ltd. is the flagship company of the Honda Group.
- In India, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. is engaged in the manufacture and sale of automobiles, two-wheelers, and power products.

- The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) launched PFRDA Pension Sahayak, an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled grievance redressal platform for pension subscribers.
- PFRDA Pension Sahayak is designed for subscribers of pension schemes regulated by the PFRDA.
- The primary objective of PFRDA Pension Sahayak is to provide a simple, accessible, transparent, and efficient grievance resolution mechanism.
- The platform consolidates multiple pension service channels into a single integrated digital system.
- PFRDA Pension Sahayak enables subscribers to register complaints, track grievance status, and receive timely resolutions.
- The platform replaces the earlier Central Grievance Management System (CGMS).
- The new system integrates web-based, mobile-based, and WhatsApp-based services on a single platform.
- A key feature of PFRDA Pension Sahayak is its AI-enabled functionality, which enhances grievance handling and user experience.
- Subscribers can access the platform using their mobile number and One-Time Password (OTP).
- The new login process eliminates the need to remember the Permanent Retirement Account Number (PRAN) or account password.
- All PRANs linked to a single mobile number are automatically displayed under one common login.
- The platform aims to improve ease of access, user convenience, and service delivery for pension subscribers.

Government Launches India's First Dedicated Wind Supply Chain Portal, WT-MARUT
- Union Minister Pralhad Joshi launched WT-MARUT (Wind Turbine Materials and Resources Utility Tracker), India's first dedicated Wind Turbine Supply Chain Management Portal, during the Global Wind Day Conference 2026 held in Goa.
- WT-MARUT has been developed by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) with support from the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA).
- The portal aims to strengthen India's domestic wind energy manufacturing ecosystem and improve supply-chain transparency.
- Key objectives of WT-MARUT include visibility into component sourcing, supplier discovery, ALMM compliance, supply-chain collaboration, and export readiness enhancement.
- ALMM stands for Approved List of Models and Manufacturers.
- The conference theme was "Wind Energy: From Ambition to Acceleration."
- India added a record 6.1 GW of new wind capacity in FY 2025-26, the highest annual wind installation achieved by the country.
- The 6.1 GW addition represented a 46% year-on-year growth over the previous year.
- India's total installed wind power capacity exceeded 56.1 GW in FY 2025-26.
- India is currently the World's 4th Largest Wind Energy Market.
- India's estimated wind energy potential is 1,164 GW, of which less than 5% has been utilized.
- During the event, the Minister also released the Wind DCR Portal, Coffee Table Book of Pawan Urja, Knowledge Reports, and State-wise Policy Reports.
- Outstanding States, developers, and manufacturers for FY 2025-26 were felicitated during the conference.
- India has set a target of achieving 500 GW of Non-Fossil Fuel Capacity by 2030.
- India has also committed to achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2070.
- Nearly 250 participants attended the Global Wind Day Conference 2026.
- The conference was organized by MNRE in association with IWTMA (Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association), WIPPA (Wind Independent Power Producers Association), and IWPA (Indian Wind Power Association).

Researchers Use GRAPES-3 Telescope to Study Effects of Atmospheric Temperature and Solar Magnetic Field on Muons
- GRAPES-3 (Gamma Ray Astronomy PeV EnergieS Phase-3) is a high-energy cosmic ray observatory located in Ooty, Tamil Nadu.
- GRAPES-3 is operated by the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR).
- The primary objective of GRAPES-3 is to study the origin, acceleration, and propagation of cosmic rays.
- The observatory measures Extensive Air Showers (EAS) produced when high-energy cosmic rays or gamma rays enter the Earth's atmosphere.
- GRAPES-3 studies cosmic rays in the tera electronvolt (TeV) to peta electronvolt (PeV) energy range.
- Recently, researchers from Mumbai, Kochi, and Japan used the GRAPES-3 telescope to examine how the Earth's upper atmospheric temperature and the Sun's magnetic field influence muons.
- Muons are subatomic particles generated when cosmic rays interact with Earth's atmosphere.
- GRAPES-3 also studies solar phenomena and thunderstorm-related events using cosmic ray muons.
- The observatory employs an array of plastic scintillator detectors for detecting extensive air showers.
- It also contains a large-area muon detector based on gas-filled proportional counters.
- The muon detector consists of 16 modules, with 232 proportional counters in each module.
- The detector system is one of the world's largest facilities for studying cosmic ray muons.
- Cosmic Rays were discovered more than 100 years ago.
- Cosmic rays are regarded as the most energetic particles in the universe.
- The Earth is continuously bombarded by cosmic rays from outer space almost uniformly from all directions.
- Cosmic rays enter the atmosphere and create a cascade (shower) of secondary particles that travel toward the Earth's surface at nearly the speed of light.
- The particle shower generated by cosmic rays contains electrons, photons, muons, protons, and neutrons.
