India Launches Its First Indigenous Quantum Diamond Microscope (QDM)
- India achieved a major milestone with the launch of its first indigenously developed Quantum Diamond Microscope (QDM) by the P-Quest Group at IIT Bombay during ESTIC 2025 (Emerging Science Technology and Innovation Conclave).
- The Quantum Diamond Microscope is a quantum sensing device that uses nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond to detect extremely minute magnetic fields.
- These NV centers are atomic-scale defects in a diamond, where a nitrogen atom sits next to a missing carbon atom, allowing precise magnetic field imaging at room temperature.
- It operates using Optically Detected Magnetic Resonance (ODMR), in which NV centers emit fluorescence that changes with magnetic field variations.
- This enables real-time 3D imaging of magnetic phenomena at the nanoscale, useful for non-destructive testing and advanced scientific research.
- The technology has wide applications across neuroscience, semiconductor diagnostics, and materials science.
- It can map magnetic activity in brain tissues, analyze 3D chip architectures for current flow without dismantling, and trace ionic movements in batteries and layered materials.
- The innovation supports the National Quantum Mission (NQM) of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), aimed at strengthening India’s capabilities in quantum sensing, computing, cryptography, and materials development.
- The P-Quest Group, led by Professor Kasturi Saha, has also secured India’s first patent in the field of quantum magnetic imaging, marking a key step toward technological self-reliance.
- The launch event was attended by Dr. Jitendra Singh (Union Minister for Science and Technology), Prof. Ajay K. Sood (Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government), and Prof. Abhay Karandikar (Secretary, DST), reflecting the government’s strong support for cutting-edge indigenous innovations.
- This achievement places India among the few countries with advanced quantum sensing capabilities, reinforcing its position in emerging high-tech research and innovation.

- Earlier in 2022, cheetahs were translocated from Namibia and released at Kuno National Park, Madhya Pradesh.
- Botswana, home to one of the largest wild cheetah populations, is donating 8 cheetahs to help strengthen genetic diversity and support India’s conservation efforts.
- The move also deepens India–Botswana strategic ties and showcases Africa’s support for India’s environmental goals.
- President Murmu’s visit marks the first-ever State visit by an Indian Head of State to both Angola and Botswana, reflecting India’s growing engagement in South–South cooperation across biodiversity, cultural exchange, and capacity building.
- Her participation in the handover event highlights India’s commitment to environmental diplomacy and sustainable wildlife conservation.
India–Bahrain Launch Real-Time Cross-Border Remittance Link via UPI–Fawri+

- Bahrain hosts a large Indian diaspora (around 30% of its population) who will now benefit from faster and cheaper remittances.
- The integration allows users to send and receive funds instantly through their domestic systems—UPI and Fawri+—replacing traditional, slower, and costlier transfer methods.
- The initiative builds on earlier cooperation: an MoU signed in 2019 during PM Modi’s visit to Bahrain between NPCI and BENEFIT; reaffirmation during the 4th India–Bahrain High Joint Commission Meeting in December 2024; and finalization of the framework in early 2025.
- The UPI–Fawri+ system supports real-time transfers, regulatory compliance under RBI and CBB, and mobile-based QR-enabled access, ensuring financial security and ease of use.
- It demonstrates India’s fintech diplomacy, promoting seamless people-to-people and business linkages.
- Bilateral trade between India and Bahrain stood at USD 1.64 billion in FY 2024–25, while mutual investments exceeded USD 2 billion.
- The initiative enhances digital financial inclusion, particularly benefiting migrant workers, and supports faster business settlements for exporters and importers, reducing both time and costs.
