Asia Index Introduces BSE Insurance Index

  • Asia Index, a wholly owned subsidiary of BSE, announced the launch of a new index called the BSE Insurance Index.
  • The BSE Insurance Index is created from the constituents of the BSE 1000 Index that belong to the insurance industry.
  • The index is designed to be used for passive investment strategies such as ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds) and Index Funds.
  • It helps in gauging the performance of the insurance sector and various sectors in India.
  • The index can also be used for benchmarking Portfolio Management Services (PMS) strategies, mutual fund schemes, and fund portfolios.
  • The index will be reconstituted semi-annually, in June and December.

  • The fresh capital infusion includes participation by the French government and Bharti Enterprises, who had earlier announced involvement in a reserved capital increase in June.
  • French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized Europe’s need to remain competitive in the low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite internet market, highlighting OneWeb as a strategic alternative to Starlink.
  • Starlink has recently secured approvals from India’s Departments of Telecommunications and Space, while OneWeb is being tested for military connectivity use cases.
  • Sunil Bharti Mittal, Bharti Group chairman and Eutelsat co-chairman, stated that this new capital injection will help Eutelsat accelerate development of innovative technologies and services under its new CEO Jean-François Fallacher.

  • The promotion received approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
  • His three-year term as Executive Director begins from July 10.
  • Initially, he will serve as Additional Executive Director, pending shareholder approval at the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) or within three months, whichever is earlier.

  • He was Professor Emeritus of South Asian Languages and Civilisations at the University of Chicago, where he taught from 1961 to 2001.
  • He chaired the South Asian Languages and Civilisations Department at Chicago from 1985 to 1991.
  • Naim was a founding editor of several journals and a prominent voice on Urdu language, culture, and politics, especially during its decline in the Indian subcontinent.

  • Purpose of the Day: The day aims to raise awareness about the welfare of horses and highlight their roles in diverse fields such as agriculture, transport, therapy, and sports.
  • Global Call to Action: The resolution encourages governments, educational institutions, and individuals to honour horses and take action to safeguard them from modern threats like climate change, exploitation, and neglect.

  • In 1953, US Department of Health, Education, and Welfare officer Dorothy Sutherland contacted US President Dwight.D.Elsenhower to celebrate “Nurses Day”.
  • Since 1965, the International Council of Nurses (ICN) has celebrated this day.
  • From January 1974, May 12 was officially declared “International Nurses Day”.
  • On this special day, the International Council of Nurses (ICN) distributed the Nurses Day kit to the people to know the importance of nurses.
  • In Bangladesh, where the number of nurses is half of the number of doctors.
