- Starlink had been eyeing the Indian market since 2022.
- In June 2025, Starlink became the third company to receive a satellite communication licence from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), after Eutelsat OneWeb and Jio Satellite Communications.
- However, commercial rollout awaits allocation of satcom spectrum, for which TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) has recently submitted recommendations on pricing and terms.

- The service is expected to target rural and remote areas with limited or no mobile coverage, aiding government efforts to connect remote offices.
- Estimated pricing for users is around ₹60,000 for hardware and ₹3,500 monthly fees, excluding government levies.
