Reserve Bank of India Directs Banks to Strengthen Fake Currency Detection at Border Branches
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) directed all banks to strengthen their systems for detecting, impounding, and reporting Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICNs) after observing that some banks were not adequately implementing counterfeit currency guidelines.
- RBI instructed banks to ensure that all branches located in districts along India's international borders are equipped with Note Authentication/Sorting Machines to improve the detection of counterfeit currency.
- As per the RBI Master Direction (April 2026), all banknotes received by banks must be examined for authenticity through Note Authentication/Sorting Machines before processing.
- Banks have been directed to impound every counterfeit note without exception, and Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICNs) must never be returned to the tenderer or destroyed at the bank.
- All detected Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICNs) must be reported strictly in accordance with RBI's prescribed reporting guidelines.
- RBI has mandated that all cash-handling staff of banks must be trained on the security features of genuine banknotes and counterfeit currency detection by 31 October 2026.
- Employees posted in bank branches located in international border districts must complete the counterfeit detection training by 15 September 2026.
- Banks have also been instructed to equip all bank branches and identified back offices with Ultra-Violet (UV) Lamps and Note Authentication/Sorting Machines to facilitate efficient identification of fake currency notes.
- The Forged Note Vigilance (FNV) Cells of banks have been directed to analyse FICN data, identify counterfeit currency hotspots, monitor emerging trends, and conduct targeted awareness, outreach, refresher training, and capacity-building programmes in vulnerable areas.

India Attains 99.92% Banking Coverage Across Inhabited Villages Through Jan Dhan Darshak App
- India achieved near-universal banking coverage, with 99.92% of inhabited villages now having access to a banking outlet within a 5 km radius as per data uploaded on the Jan Dhan Darshak (JDD) App.
- Out of the total 6,01,328 inhabited villages, 6,00,868 villages are covered by banking outlets through Bank Branches, Business Correspondents (BCs), or India Post Payments Bank (IPPB).
Key Highlights :
- As on 17 July 2026, India’s banking outreach infrastructure included over 1.81 lakh bank branches, 17.36 lakh Business Correspondents (BCs), and 1.65 lakh IPPB centres.
- The Government aims to provide a banking outlet within a 5 km radius of every inhabited village to ensure financial inclusion in rural and remote areas.
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) allows Commercial Banks, Small Finance Banks, Payments Banks, Local Area Banks, and Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) to open branches anywhere in India without prior approval, provided 25% of branches are opened in unbanked rural areas.
- The expansion of banking outlets in uncovered areas is monitored through State Level Bankers’ Committees (SLBCs) and Union Territory Level Bankers’ Committees (UTLBCs) in coordination with governments, banks, and stakeholders.
- As on 17 July 2026, the number of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) accounts reached 77 crore, with total deposits of ₹3,12,414 crore.
Digital Initiatives for Agricultural Credit
- The Government launched the Jan Samarth Portal as a one-stop digital platform for connecting government-sponsored loan and subsidy schemes.
- Jan Samarth Portal enables faster loan applications and timely sanction through digital evaluation of applicants’ data.
- To improve agricultural credit delivery, digital platforms such as NABARD’s e-KYC application, KRISHIKA by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, and bank-developed digital applications have been introduced.
- The Kisan Rin Portal (KRP) was launched in September 2023 by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
- Kisan Rin Portal (KRP) enables Aadhaar-based beneficiary verification and faster digital claim settlement under the Modified Interest Subvention Scheme (MISS) for Kisan Credit Card (KCC)
Cyber Security and Digital Payment Safety Measures
- The Government and RBI have taken various measures to strengthen cyber security of digital payment transactions and prevent cyber financial frauds.
- The Government, in consultation with RBI, established the India Digital Payment Intelligence Corporation (IDPIC) to provide real-time fraud intelligence and alerts to banks and financial institutions.
- IDPIC uses advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Big Data Analytics for fraud detection.
- RBI issued Master Directions on Digital Payment Security Controls in February 2021 to protect digital payment channels including internet banking, mobile banking, and card payments.
- RBI launched an AI-based tool named ‘MuleHunter’ to identify money mule accounts and advised banks and financial institutions to use it.
- The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) monitors digital lending apps and cyber fraud activities.
- The National Cybercrime Reporting Portal and National Cybercrime Helpline Number 1930 were launched to help citizens report cyber incidents, including fake and illegal loan apps.
- RBI and banks conduct awareness programmes through SMS campaigns, radio campaigns, and electronic-banking awareness and training (e-BAAT) programmes to spread awareness about cyber fraud prevention and risk mitigation.
Cube Highways Trust Becomes India’s Largest Listed Infrastructure Investment Trust After Bombay Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange Debut
- Cube Highways Trust became India's largest publicly listed Infrastructure Investment Trust (InvIT) after its units were listed on both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on 31 July 2026.
- The InvIT was listed at ₹155 per unit against its Initial Public Offering (IPO) price of ₹152, touched an intraday high of ₹158.40 on the BSE, and closed at ₹156.88 (BSE) and ₹156.96 (NSE).
- The Offer for Sale (OFS) of Cube Highways Trust was subscribed over nine times, reflecting strong participation from institutional, strategic, and retail investors.
- Cube Highways Trust owns a diversified portfolio of operational highway assets across India, generating stable toll-based cash flows and providing long-term income to investors.
- The public listing transformed Cube Highways Trust from a privately listed InvIT into a publicly listed InvIT, significantly expanding its investor base beyond institutional and strategic investors.
- Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvITs) are SEBI-regulated investment vehicles that allow investors to invest in income-generating infrastructure assets such as highways, power transmission lines, and pipelines.
- InvITs function as pass-through investment vehicles, enabling investors to receive income from operational infrastructure assets while enjoying pass-through tax benefits under applicable regulations.
Bajaj Finserv Announces Entry into Reinsurance Sector, Becomes Third Private Player in India
- Bajaj Finserv’s Board has approved the company’s entry into the reinsurance business through a wholly owned subsidiary, subject to approval from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).
- With this move, Bajaj Finserv is set to become the third private-sector company to announce plans to enter India’s domestic reinsurance market after Valueattics Re and Allianz-Jio Reinsurance.
- Bajaj Finserv already has a strong presence in the insurance sector through its majority stakes in Bajaj Allianz General Insurance and Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance, along with a significant stake in Bajaj Finance.
- The entry of private players into the reinsurance sector comes nearly 25 years after India opened the insurance sector to private participation, increasing competition in the domestic reinsurance market.
- Valueattics Re became the first private-sector reinsurer to enter India’s reinsurance market in March 2025, backed by Prem Watsa and Kamesh Goyal.
- IRDAI granted a licence to Allianz-Jio Reinsurance to commence operations, making it another private player entering India’s reinsurance space.
- General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC Re), established in 1972, remains India’s largest domestic reinsurer and the dominant player in the reinsurance market.
- After the liberalisation of the insurance sector in 2001, GIC Re was designated as the national reinsurer, receiving advantages such as first right of refusal and obligatory cession.
- The government has gradually reduced the obligatory cession requirement for reinsurers from 20% earlier to 4% in FY26.
- As of 31 March 2026, GIC Re’s domestic business consisted of 42% obligatory business and 58% non-obligatory business.
- India’s reinsurance market was valued at approximately ₹1.12 lakh crore in FY25 and is expected to grow by 8–20% annually, supported by increasing insurance penetration and rising risk management needs.
- Apart from GIC Re, India has 12 Foreign Reinsurance Branches (FRBs) operated by global reinsurers including Munich Re, Swiss Re, Hannover Re, and Lloyd’s of London.
- Around 291 Cross-Border Reinsurers (CBRs) are also operating in India’s reinsurance market.
RBL Bank Receives First-Ever Baa2 Investment-Grade Rating from Moody’s
- RBL Bank has received its first-ever investment-grade credit rating from Moody’s Ratings, with a long-term issuer rating of Baa2 and a short-term issuer rating of P-2.
- Moody’s Ratings has assigned a Stable Outlook to RBL Bank, reflecting the expected long-term financial and strategic support from its largest shareholder, Emirates NBD Bank.
- The rating includes a two-notch uplift for affiliate support, recognising the strong backing provided by Emirates NBD Bank following its acquisition of a controlling stake in RBL Bank.
- The Baa2 rating is an investment-grade rating, indicating that RBL Bank has an adequate capacity to meet its financial obligations and is well above the speculative-grade category.
- The rating is also supported by RBL Bank’s strong franchise, expected business growth over the next two to three years, and robust capitalization levels.
- Emirates NBD Bank strengthened RBL Bank’s capital base through a primary capital infusion of approximately ₹26,000 crore (USD 2.75 billion), resulting in the acquisition of a 60% stake in the bank.
- Emirates NBD Bank, the second-largest bank in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), announced its intention to acquire a majority stake in RBL Bank in October 2025 and completed the acquisition after obtaining all necessary regulatory approvals.

Indian Railways Approves ₹976 Crore Multitracking Project on Danapur–Fatuha Section in Bihar
- Indian Railways approved the multitracking of the 29-kilometre Danapur–Fatuha section of the East Central Railway (ECR) at a cost of ₹976 crore.
- The project aims to decongest one of the busiest rail corridors in Patna, improve operational efficiency, and enhance both passenger and freight transportation.
- Components of the project:
- Third and Fourth railway lines between Danapur and Patna.
- Third railway line between Rajendra Nagar and Patna Saheb.
- Third and Fourth railway lines between Patna Saheb and Fatuha.
- The additional railway lines will:
- Reduce congestion on the Patna rail corridor.
- Minimise train delays.
- Improve train punctuality.
- Increase line capacity for passenger and freight movement.
- In the first year of operation, the project will enable:
- 22 additional passenger trains per day.
- 18 additional freight trains per day.
- Handling of an additional 5.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of freight traffic.
- The project is part of the quadrupling initiative on the Delhi–Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction–Patna–Kiul–Bhagalpur–Khana–Howrah railway route.
- The route has been identified under the Energy, Mineral and Cement Corridor of Indian Railways to strengthen freight connectivity for key industrial sectors.
- The upgraded rail section will also support logistics for the upcoming 2,120 Megawatt (MW) thermal power plant at Chausa, Buxar district, Bihar, by facilitating the movement of bulk raw materials and fuel.
- The project is expected to strengthen rail infrastructure, improve logistics efficiency, and support the socio-economic development of Bihar.

- Indian Railways (IR) has unveiled a new logo following the creation of the South Coast Railway (SCoR) zone as the 18th Zonal Railway in the country. The newly formed railway zone has become operational from June 1, 2026. In an office order issued on May 27, 2026, the Railway Board stated that the revised Indian Railways logo has been approved by the Chairman of the Railway Board (CRB) for official use.
Union Government Approves ₹2,117.85 Crore Advance State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) Assistance for Flood-Hit States
- Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah approved the advance release of ₹2,117.85 crore from the Central Share of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to support flood-affected States during the Southwest Monsoon 2026.
- Under the leadership of Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, the Government of India (GoI) reaffirmed its commitment to providing relief, rescue and rehabilitation assistance to States affected by floods.
- Since the onset of the monsoon, the Government of India has continuously monitored the flood situation in coordination with State Governments and extended support through:
- Pre-deployment of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams.
- Logistical assistance from the Ministry of Defence (MoD), wherever required.
- Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) have been deployed to assess flood damage:
- Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.
- Two Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) visits were undertaken in Assam due to the severity of floods.
- An Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) is also being constituted for Nagaland following the request of the State Government.
- Himachal Pradesh, Odisha and Nagaland had already received the first instalment of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for Financial Year (FY) 2026–27. To ensure timely relief operations:
- Second instalment was released in advance to Himachal Pradesh and Odisha.
- Advance first instalment was approved for Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat and Maharashtra by relaxing documentary requirements under the applicable guidelines.
- State-wise assistance approved:
- Arunachal Pradesh – ₹44.55 crore (Advance First Instalment)
- Assam – ₹379.35 crore (Advance First Instalment)
- Gujarat – ₹500 crore (Advance First Instalment)
- Himachal Pradesh – ₹193.95 crore (Advance Second Instalment)
- Maharashtra – ₹500 crore (Advance First Instalment)
- Odisha – ₹500 crore (Advance Second Instalment)
- A total of ₹2,117.85 crore has been made available to strengthen relief, rescue and rehabilitation measures in the flood-affected States.
About State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF)
- State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) is the primary fund available with State Governments for meeting expenditure on disaster relief.
- It is constituted under the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
- The Central Government contributes:
- 75% of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) allocation for General Category States.
- 90% for Special Category States (North Eastern States, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh).
- National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is a specialised disaster response force functioning under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
- Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) is constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to assess damage caused by natural disasters and recommend additional financial assistance from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).
- Financial Year (FY) 2026–27 refers to the period from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027.
Prime Minister Launches ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan’
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan’, a nationwide campaign aimed at creating a drug-free youth population to support the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.
- The campaign was launched through a nationwide video conference, connecting over one crore youth from more than 28,000 locations across the country.
- The initiative seeks to ensure that India's youth remain physically healthy, mentally strong, self-confident and free from substance abuse, recognising them as the foundation of a developed India.
- The campaign evolved from a pilot project launched in Kashi (Varanasi) in the previous year and has now become a national movement under the Kashi Declaration.
- More than 125 spiritual organisations and several Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) are supporting the campaign.
- As part of the initiative, young people took a pledge against drug abuse and committed to spreading awareness in schools, colleges and local communities.
- The campaign will run for 100 weeks, with every Sunday dedicated to activities such as sports, cultural programmes, art, meditation and awareness campaigns to encourage youth participation.
- The Prime Minister described India's youth as the "Amrit Generation", highlighting their role in achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
- Educational institutions were urged to incorporate drug awareness programmes and encourage active anti-drug campaigns on campuses.

Malabar Gold & Diamonds Begins Jewellery Exports to the United Kingdom Under the India–UK Trade Agreement
- Malabar Gold & Diamonds became one of the first Indian jewellery companies to export jewellery to the United Kingdom (UK) under the India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), marking a major milestone for India’s gem and jewellery exports.
- The inaugural export ceremony was held at Vanijya Bhawan, New Delhi, in the presence of British High Commissioner to India Lindy Cameron, Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal, representatives of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), senior government officials, and Malabar Gold & Diamonds representatives.
- The India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) aims to strengthen bilateral trade, enhance economic cooperation, improve market access in the United Kingdom, and create new export opportunities for India’s gem and jewellery sector.
- The export marks a significant milestone in Malabar Gold & Diamonds’ international expansion as well as in India’s jewellery export industry under the India–UK trade framework.
- Malabar Gold & Diamonds has announced plans to expand its international presence by opening more than 30 new showrooms across the United Kingdom, United States (US), Canada, and other global markets through its Western Value Chain.
- The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) was established in 1966 by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and serves as the apex body for promoting India’s gem and jewellery exports and enhancing the sector’s global competitiveness.

Government Extends International Financial Services Centres Authority Chairperson K. Rajaraman’s Tenure Until October 2028
- The Central Government has extended the tenure of Rajaraman as the Chairperson of the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) by 27 months, allowing him to continue in office until attaining the age of 65 years on 24 October 2028 or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
- K.Rajaraman assumed charge as Chairperson of IFSCA on 1 August 2023, after serving as the Secretary, Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India.
About IFSCA :
- IFSCA was established in April 2020 under the International Financial Services Centres Authority Act, 2019 as a unified regulator for financial products, financial services, and financial institutions operating in International Financial Services Centres (IFSCs) in India.
- The headquarters of IFSCA is located at GIFT City, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, which is currently India’s only notified International Financial Services Centre (IFSC).
- Before the establishment of IFSCA, financial activities in IFSCs were regulated separately by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), and Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA).
- IFSCA serves as the single regulatory authority responsible for the development and regulation of financial products, services, and institutions in IFSCs, replacing the earlier multi-regulator framework.
- The main objective of IFSCA is to develop a globally competitive international financial hub, strengthen India’s global financial connectivity, support the needs of the Indian economy, and position GIFT IFSC as an international financial platform for the region and the global economy.

Ajit Doval Conferred Lokmanya Tilak National Award 2026
- National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval was conferred the Lokmanya Tilak National Award 2026 by Union Home Minister Amit Shah at a ceremony held in Pune, Maharashtra.
- The event was attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Union Minister of State for Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol, Sunetra Pawar, and other dignitaries.
- The award was presented on the 106th death anniversary of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak.
- Amit Shah described Lokmanya Tilak as a visionary leader, teacher, journalist, thinker and freedom fighter who inspired India's freedom movement with the slogan "Swaraj is my birthright, and I shall have it."
- Amit Shah noted that Tilak founded the newspapers Kesari (Marathi) and The Maratha (English), which played a significant role in India's freedom struggle.
- While presenting the award, Amit Shah said that Ajit Doval's contributions to India's internal and external security have made him an inspiration for citizens dedicated to national service.
- Ajit Doval is the longest-serving National Security Advisor of India, having held the office since 2014.
- During the event, Amit Shah also paid floral tributes to Annabhau Sathe on his birth anniversary.

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Introduces Upgraded ‘MyCall’ App to Help Consumers Evaluate and Report Voice Call Quality
- The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) launched the revamped version of the ‘TRAI MyCall’ mobile application to enable telecom consumers to assess and report their voice-calling experience
- TRAI MyCall is a citizen-centric digital platform that allows telecom consumers to provide real-time feedback on voice call quality along with relevant network parameters.
- The feedback provided by consumers is shared with Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) and TRAI in an anonymised form.
- Consumer feedback helps Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) identify areas where network performance requires improvement and take targeted corrective measures.
- The consumer-driven approach of TRAI MyCall is expected to improve the overall Quality of Service (QoS) in telecom networks.
- The platform strengthens TRAI’s evidence-based regulatory oversight by enabling assessment of Quality of Experience (QoE) based on real consumer feedback.
- India has more than one billion telecom subscribers, making voice calling the most fundamental telecom service and a key indicator of network quality.
- TRAI MyCall bridges the gap between technical Quality of Service (QoS) and consumer-perceived Quality of Experience (QoE) by combining consumer feedback with network information.
- The revamped TRAI MyCall application provides an instant voice call rating facility through a simple 1–5 star feedback system.
- Consumers can report voice-calling issues such as call drops, echo during calls, audio delay, cross connection, voice breaking, one-way audio issues, and delayed call connection through the application.
- Reported issues are made available to respective Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) for taking necessary corrective actions.
- The application provides automatic post-call feedback prompts to encourage easy and seamless consumer participation.
- Users can access their rating and feedback history through an interactive map available on the application.
- The Coverage Test feature of TRAI MyCall helps consumers assess signal strength and network coverage quality.

Australia's University of New South Wales Launches Bengaluru Campus as Its First Educational Hub in India
- Australia's University of New South Wales (UNSW) launched its first international campus in India at Manyata Business Park, Bengaluru, Karnataka, with academic operations commencing in August 2026.
- The Bengaluru campus is the first overseas campus in India established by an Australian Group of Eight (Go8) university, marking a major milestone in India–Australia higher education collaboration.
- The campus will begin with an inaugural batch of around 90–100 students and plans to gradually expand enrolment to 4,000–5,000 students while maintaining its industry-integrated learning model.
- UNSW has strategically established its campus inside Manyata Business Park instead of a traditional standalone campus to immerse students in Bengaluru's technology and innovation ecosystem.
- The campus will initially offer 4 academic programmes focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cybersecurity, Digital Technologies, Advanced Manufacturing, and Sustainability, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and future workforce requirements.
- UNSW has partnered with Deloitte and is collaborating with other industries to provide internships, live industry projects, practical learning opportunities, and aims to achieve 100% student employment.
- Industry engagement will remain a core feature of the curriculum, with internships and live projects integrated throughout the academic programmes to enhance job readiness.
- UNSW is evaluating the introduction of additional programmes, including an MBA, Engineering courses, and other Master's programmes, based on industry demand.
- The university is also developing a student exchange programme that will allow students to complete part of their studies in India and part in Australia, further strengthening bilateral academic cooperation.
Flipkart Partners with Netflix to Offer OTT Subscription Benefits to Flipkart Plus Members from August 1
- Flipkart has partnered with Netflix to offer a Netflix Mobile subscription as a reward under the Flipkart Plus loyalty programme, marking Netflix’s first partnership with an Indian e-commerce platform.
- Effective from 1 August 2026, Flipkart Plus members who place four qualifying orders of at least ₹299 each in a calendar month across Flipkart, Flipkart Grocery, or Flipkart Minutes will receive a 30-day Netflix Mobile subscription.
- The Netflix Mobile Plan is activated through the Flipkart app immediately after the fourth eligible purchase, with no separate payment or additional login required.
- To continue receiving the benefit, members must requalify every month by meeting the required purchase criteria.
- Customers who are not Flipkart Plus members become eligible for the programme automatically after placing 15 orders within 12 months, without any additional membership fee.
- The partnership aims to encourage repeat purchases, enhance customer loyalty, strengthen content-commerce integration, and provide greater value to Flipkart Plus members.
- The collaboration also strengthens Flipkart’s competitive position against Amazon Prime and quick-commerce platforms by combining shopping rewards with digital entertainment benefits.
- Earlier in 2026, Flipkart shifted its holding company from Singapore to India, paving the way for its proposed Initial Public Offering (IPO) in the Indian stock market.
- Flipkart is a Walmart-owned e-commerce company, with Walmart acquiring a controlling stake in the company in 2018.
- According to the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), India’s e-commerce market is projected to grow from USD 120–140 billion at present to USD 280–300 billion by 2030.
- The number of online shoppers in India is expected to increase from 300 million in 2025 to 440 million by 2030, driven by higher participation from rural consumers, women, and youth.
NAKSHA Launched to Modernize Urban Land Records Through GIS-Based Mapping Initiative
- NAKSHA (National Geospatial Knowledge-based Land Survey of Urban Habitations) is a GIS-based urban land parcel mapping initiative launched by the Department of Land Resources (DoLR) under the Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme (DILRMP) to modernize urban land records.
- The main objective of NAKSHA is to create highly accurate digital maps of urban and peri-urban areas using advanced geospatial technology, improving land record management and urban planning.
- The NAKSHA programme is being implemented with technical support from the Survey of India and National Informatics Centre Services Inc. (NICSI).
- The initiative uses aerial surveys, field verification, and Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to prepare reliable digital land parcel maps.
- NAKSHA does not change existing land ownership, legal titles, or property boundaries and does not modify the rights of existing property owners.
- The programme is not a land acquisition scheme and is not related to property tax collection; its purpose is only to improve digital land records and urban planning.
- The NAKSHA pilot programme includes a month-long inquiry process in Margao, Cuncolim, and Panaji in Goa for verification of property details.
- During the inquiry process, property owners are required to present title documents for verification before preparation of final digital land records.
- The NAKSHA workflow includes multiple verification stages and public verification windows to protect the interests of all property owners, including non-resident landowners.
- Being absent from the survey location or living abroad does not affect ownership rights, and legal ownership will continue to be determined through valid legal titles and existing procedures.
- The programme helps in better town planning, infrastructure development, public utility management, and efficient urban governance through accurate digital mapping.
- The ground-truthing phase involves verifying electronic mapping data with actual field conditions before finalizing digital records.
- The formal inquiry process under the NAKSHA pilot was scheduled from 16 July 2026 to 14 August 2026.

- India won six out of seven titles at the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships 2026 held in New Delhi, missing only the men’s doubles title.
- Ankur Bhattacharjee and Yashaswini Ghorpade won the men’s singles and women’s singles titles respectively, marking a dominant performance by Indian paddlers.
- Men’s Singles Final:
- Ankur Bhattacharjee (India) defeated compatriot Payas Jain by 4–3 (11-8, 9-11, 7-11, 11-8, 4-11, 11-4, 11-9) to win the title.
- The 19-year-old Ankur Bhattacharjee defeated Manav Thakkar in the semi-final.

- Renowned Hindi writer Kailash Chandra Pant passed away at the age of 90 in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh (MP).

- Kailash Chandra Pant was born on 26 April 1936 in Mhow, Indore district, Madhya Pradesh.
- He was honoured with the prestigious Padma Shri in 2026 in the field of Literature and Education for his outstanding contribution to Hindi literature and education.
- Kailash Chandra Pant began his professional career as a Lecturer at the Union Theological Seminary, Indore.
- He later served as the Principal of the Panchayat Raj Training Centre, Bhopal, before devoting himself entirely to literary and cultural activities.
- He served as the Director of Hindi Bhavan, Bhopal, and was actively associated with the Madhya Pradesh Rashtrabhasha Prachar Samiti (MPRPS).
- He made significant contributions to Hindi journalism by editing literary journals such as Shiksha Pradeep, Jandharma, and Durgami Ahwan, besides contributing to several magazines and weekly publications.
- Kailash Chandra Pant held important positions in the Bharat Krishak Samaj and the Madhya Bharat Hindi Sahitya Samiti, contributing significantly to literary and cultural development.

- Franco Baresi spent his entire club career with AC Milan from 1977 to 1997, making 719 official appearances for the club.
- He captained AC Milan for 15 seasons, becoming one of the greatest defenders and captains in football history.
- During his illustrious club career, he won 6 Serie A titles, 3 European Cup/UEFA Champions League titles, 2 Intercontinental Cups, 2 UEFA Super Cups, and 4 Supercoppa Italiana trophies.
- At the international level, Franco Baresi earned 81 caps for Italy and represented the national team with distinction.
- He was a member of Italy’s 1982 FIFA World Cup-winning squad at the age of 22, helping the country win its third FIFA World Cup title.
- Franco Baresi later captained Italy to the 1994 FIFA World Cup Final, where the team finished runners-up to Brazil.

- General Vishwa Nath Sharma (Retired), former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of the Indian Army (IA), passed away in New Delhi, Delhi, at the age of 91.
About General Vishwa Nath Sharma :
- General Vishwa Nath Sharma served as the 14th Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of the Indian Army from 1 May 1988 to 30 June 1990.
- He had a distinguished military career spanning over four decades, serving in several important command, staff, and leadership appointments before becoming the Army Chief.
- General Vishwa Nath Sharma was educated at Sherwood College, Nainital, Prince of Wales’ Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), Dehradun, and later joined the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun.
- He joined the 5th Regular Course at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun, and was commissioned on 4 June 1950 into the 16th Light Cavalry.
- He became the first President’s Commissioned Officer after Independence to rise to the position of Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
- During the 1965 Indo-Pak War, he served as a Major and saw active combat in the Lahore Sector.
- After the 1965 Indo-Pak War, he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier and commanded a Mountain Brigade in an insurgency-affected area.
- He later commanded an Armoured Brigade in the Rajasthan Desert, strengthening India's armoured warfare capabilities.
- In 1980, he was promoted to the rank of Major General and commanded a Mountain Division in the Western Sector.
- In 1984, he attained the rank of Lieutenant General and took command of a Corps in the Western Sector.
- He was honoured with the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) in 1977 for his distinguished military service.
- He was awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) in 1986 in recognition of his exceptional service to the nation.

World Lung Cancer Day 2026 Observed on 1 August
- World Lung Cancer Day is observed every year on 1 August to raise awareness about lung cancer, its symptoms, risk factors, prevention methods, screening techniques and treatment options.
- The objective of the day is to educate people about lung cancer prevention, encourage early diagnosis, promote healthy lung habits and support research efforts to reduce the global cancer burden.
- World Lung Cancer Day was first observed in 2012 by the Forum of International Respiratory Societies (FIRS) in collaboration with organisations including the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) and the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST).
- The campaign was initiated to highlight lung cancer as one of the deadliest and most misunderstood forms of cancer and to encourage global action against the disease.
- Rising cases among non-smokers, increasing air pollution levels and advancements in medical research have increased the importance of lung cancer awareness campaigns.
