NPCI International Payments Limited and Uzbekistan’s NIPC Partner to Enable UPI Payments Across the Country via UZQR

• NPCI International Payments Ltd. (NIPL), the international arm of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), entered into a commercial agreement with National Interbank Processing Centre JSC (NIPC) of Uzbekistan on 30 August 2026.

Key Highlights :

• NIPC operates HUMO, Uzbekistan’s national payment system, and the agreement enables UPI-based merchant payments in Uzbekistan.
• Under the agreement, Indian travellers can use their UPI-enabled applications to scan Uzbekistan’s national interoperable UZQR code and make instant merchant payments across the country.
• The UPI rollout in Uzbekistan was announced during the bilateral visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Uzbekistan.
• The agreement followed formal approvals from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Central Bank of Uzbekistan (CBU).
• The Central Bank of Uzbekistan (CBU) designated HUMO as NIPL’s authorised partner for cross-border merchant acceptance.
• By integrating UPI with the Unified National QR (UZQR) infrastructure, Indian UPI users are expected to receive near-universal acceptance across retail, hospitality and service merchants in Uzbekistan.
• Indian tourists, business travellers and students can make Person-to-Merchant (P2M) payments directly from their Indian bank accounts.
• The arrangement reduces dependence on cash and international cards and helps travellers avoid or reduce foreign-exchange markup-related friction.
• The initiative strengthens India-Uzbekistan digital public infrastructure cooperation and supports broader strategic and economic ties between the two countries.
• With Uzbekistan, the international expansion of UPI continues to grow, providing Indian travellers with a familiar and convenient digital payment option
• Before Uzbekistan, UPI was stated to be accepted in 10 countries: Singapore, UAE, France, Mauritius, Nepal, Bhutan, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Cambodia and Greece.
• Uzbekistan is set to become the latest country to adopt India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for cross-border merchant payments.
• The India-Uzbekistan partnership was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with both countries targeting USD 5 billion in annual bilateral trade by 2030.
• India and Uzbekistan signed 11 agreements covering areas including trade and investment, infrastructure, critical minerals and mining, defence and security, agriculture, pharmaceuticals and health, IT, digital public infrastructure, culture, tourism and education.
• The two countries also signed an MoU on mining cooperation, focusing on critical minerals including uranium.
• The agreement is part of India’s broader effort to expand its Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) internationally and deepen cross-border digital transactions.
• UPI abroad allows Indian travellers to make instant and secure payments directly from their linked Indian bank accounts through familiar UPI applications.
• International UPI payments can support cash-free travel, reduce reliance on foreign currency, and provide users with real-time transaction tracking through their linked accounts.

Tamil Nadu Notifies Three Elephant Corridors in Cauvery North Wildlife Sanctuary

• The Tamil Nadu Government has formally notified three elephant corridors in the Cauvery North Wildlife Sanctuary under the Hosur Forest Division, strengthening habitat connectivity and facilitating the safe movement of elephants between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Key Highlights

• The three recognised elephant corridors are:
• Jawalagiri–Ulibanda–Thaggatti
• Jawalagiri–Panai–Anchetty
• Billikkal–Jawalagiri
• The notification was issued by Kakarla Usha, Additional Chief Secretary, Environment, Climate Change and Forests Department, Tamil Nadu.
• The three corridors collectively cover more than 10,300 hectares of reserve forest and wildlife sanctuary land.
• Jawalagiri–Panai–Anchetty is the largest corridor, covering 6,881.47 hectares across 20.90 km.
• Jawalagiri–Ulibanda–Thaggatti covers 3,241.53 hectares across 18.50 km.
• Billikkal–Jawalagiri is the smallest corridor, extending 2.20 km and covering nearly 196 hectares.
• The notification follows interim directions of the Madras High Court and recommendations of committees constituted to identify elephant corridors and address conservation-related obstacles.
• The corridors serve as important ecological links across the Tamil Nadu–Karnataka border, enabling elephants to move according to monsoon patterns, water and fodder availability, breeding needs and habitat conditions.
• Formal recognition is expected to strengthen conservation priority, wildlife monitoring, inter-state forest coordination and landscape planning, while helping reduce human-elephant conflict.
• Since the corridors are located within existing reserve forests and protected areas, the notification does not alter the legal classification of the land or introduce additional restrictions on local residents.
• The notification will be published in the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette and the Krishnagiri District Gazette, completing the formal recognition process.

Ladakh to Get High Court Bench Under New 2026 Regulation

• President Droupadi Murmu promulgated The Union Territory of Ladakh (Sitting of the Bench of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh in Ladakh) Regulation, 2026.
• The regulation provides for sittings of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh in the Union Territory of Ladakh, improving access to higher judicial remedies for the people of the region.
• The regulation was issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice and published in the Gazette of India Extraordinary on 27 August 2026.
• The move follows the Union Cabinet’s approval to enable High Court sittings in Ladakh.

Key Highlights

• The initiative aims to reduce the time, travel and financial burden faced by litigants who currently need to travel outside Ladakh for High Court proceedings.
• The principal seat of the common High Court will continue at its existing location, while judges and divisions may hold sittings at other locations within Ladakh as designated by the Chief Justice, with the approval of the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
• The Chief Justice may also direct that cases or classes of cases arising in Ladakh be heard at Srinagar or Jammu, as applicable.
• The regulation extends to the entire Union Territory of Ladakh and will come into force on a date notified by the Administrator of Ladakh in the Official Gazette.
• Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena welcomed the move, stating that it would provide easier, faster and more accessible access to justice.
• The notification was issued within seven days of the Union Cabinet’s decision, highlighting the swift implementation of the proposal.

• The initiative aims to ensure that every child can read and write by the age of 7 years.
• The programme is part of the Meghalaya Universal Reading Readiness Mission and focuses on strengthening early-grade reading readiness and learning outcomes.
• Special emphasis is being given to children in rural and remote areas of Meghalaya.

Delhi Tops States and Union Territories in Own Revenue Share in FY 2024-25

• Delhi ranked 1st among States and Union Territories (UTs) in terms of own revenue as a share of total revenue receipts, with 93.2% in FY 2024-25 Budget Estimates (BE).
• The ranking is based on data from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) 2025 Handbook of Statistics on Indian States and compares States and UTs across eight fiscal indicators.

Key Highlights

• Haryana ranked 2nd with 80.4%, followed by Telangana (78.4%), Karnataka (77.3%) and Tamil Nadu (75.5%).
• Top 5 States/UTs by Own Revenue Share:

• Manipur recorded the lowest own revenue share at 10.0%, followed by Nagaland (12.5%), Arunachal Pradesh (12.8%), Tripura (16.6%) and Mizoram (19.6%).
• Own revenue comprises Own Tax Revenue and Own Non-Tax Revenue generated by a State/UT from its own sources.
• A higher own revenue share indicates greater revenue self-reliance and relatively lower dependence on Union government tax devolution and grants.
• The indicator is calculated as: (Own Tax Revenue + Own Non-Tax Revenue) ÷ Total Revenue Receipts × 100.
• Own Tax Revenue includes taxes collected by the State/UT, while Own Non-Tax Revenue includes sources such as fees, royalties, dividends and user charges.
• The ranking should not be treated as an overall ranking of fiscal health, as other indicators such as fiscal deficit, debt, expenditure and pension burden also determine the financial position of a State/UT.
• The figures are based on FY 2024-25 Budget Estimates, not final actual accounts; therefore, actual revenue figures may differ.

Gujarat Launches India’s First State-Level Sports Genomics Programme

• Gujarat has launched the State-level Sports Genomics Programme, becoming the first Indian state to introduce such an initiative.
• The programme aims to use genomics, sports science, physiology and nutrition to improve athlete identification, training and high-performance development.
• The initiative is being implemented by the Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre (GBRC) under the Department of Science and Technology, Gujarat.
• Athlete sample collection has already begun, with the first batch collected from tennis players of the Gujarat State Tennis Association.
• The next phase will cover athletes from archery, fencing, judo and shooting associated with the Vijayi Bharat Foundation.

Bihar Launches ‘Bihar Vidya Saathi’ 24×7 Interactive Learning Platform for Classes 9–12

• The Bihar Government has launched ‘Bihar Vidya Saathi’, a 24×7 one-on-one interactive learning platform for students of Classes 9 to 12.
• The platform was launched by Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary through video conferencing for 700 Saraswati Vidya Niketan Model Schools across the state.

Key Highlights

• Around 75,000 teachers will provide one-on-one academic support to students round the clock. Students can choose teachers according to their learning requirements.
• The platform provides live teacher interaction, digital study materials and AI-powered learning tools for conceptual understanding, practice and exam preparation.
• Students will receive digital support for Bihar Board, Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) preparation.
• Initially, the platform provides all subjects for Classes 9–10 and Science subjects for Classes 11–12. The coverage is planned to be expanded gradually.
• The initiative aims to enable students to resolve academic queries anytime and from anywhere, thereby improving access to quality education and personalised guidance.

Andhra Pradesh Approves India’s First Dedicated Quantum and Artificial Intelligence University Campus in Amaravati

• Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu approved the establishment of India’s first dedicated Quantum and Artificial Intelligence (AI) University campus in Amaravati.
• The campus will be established by the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

Key Highlights

• The project will be developed on 8.5 acres with an estimated investment of ₹730.7 crore, proposed to be fully funded through a Government of India grant-in-aid from MeitY.
• Academic and skill-development programmes are scheduled to begin from September 2026 at a temporary facility at Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur, until the permanent campus is developed.
• The university will focus on Quantum Technologies, Artificial Intelligence, Semiconductors and other Deep-Tech fields, integrating education, research, skilling, innovation and entrepreneurship.
• Proposed programmes will cover quantum computing, quantum communication and security, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, data science, semiconductor fabrication, chip design, Very Large-Scale Integration (VLSI), Assembly, Testing, Marking and Packaging (ATMP), embedded systems and High-Performance Computing (HPC).
• A Quantum Research, Innovation and Incubation Block of around 1.2 lakh square feet will be developed.
• The campus will include facilities for quantum computing and communication, quantum photonics, quantum security, cryogenic systems, High-Performance Computing, cleanrooms, nano-fabrication, semiconductor technologies, chip design, data centres and startup incubation.
• The project is expected to train around 8,250 learners over five years:
• 1,650 learners through formal degree programmes.
• 6,600 learners through skilling and certification programmes.
• NIELIT plans collaborations with IIT Tirupati, IIIT Sri City, Andhra University and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) institutions for academics, research and technology development.
• The initiative aligns with major national technology programmes including the National Quantum Mission, IndiaAI Mission and India Semiconductor Mission.

Prime Minister Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) Scheme Completes One Year of Restructured Phase

• The Prime Minister Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) Scheme, launched on 1 June 2020, provides collateral-free working capital loans to urban street vendors.
• The restructured PM SVANidhi Scheme was approved by the Union Cabinet on 27 August 2025, with lending extended up to 31 March 2030.
• The restructured scheme focuses on formal credit, digital financial inclusion, social security, capacity building and entrepreneurship.
• It aims to benefit 1.15 crore street vendors, including 50 lakh new beneficiaries.

Key Highlights

• During the first year of the restructured phase:
• 21.86 lakh loans were disbursed.
• 10.56 lakh new beneficiaries were covered.
• Total loan amount disbursed: ₹6,294 crore.
• An UPI-linked RuPay Credit Card with a credit limit of up to ₹30,000 has been introduced for eligible street vendors. So far, 27,077 credit cards have been approved.
• An end-to-end Digital Lending Platform (DLP) has been introduced to simplify the complete loan process, including application, verification, approval and disbursement.
• A Vendor Migration Module enables seamless transfer of Letters of Recommendation (LoRs) when vendors migrate between Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and Census Towns, ensuring continuity of scheme benefits.
• Under the City Region Approach, the scheme has expanded its coverage to Census Towns, enabling more vendors to access formal credit and livelihood support.
• The PM SVANidhi Startup Challenge encourages startups and innovators to develop solutions related to market access, digital payments, financial services, logistics and vending infrastructure.
• To improve vending infrastructure, 50 Street Food Hubs (SFHs) will be developed across the country.
• Cities can receive financial assistance of up to ₹4 crore per Street Food Hub, including an additional ₹25 lakh for notification of vending zones.
• Lok Kalyan Melas are being organised to connect street vendors with banks and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and facilitate access to credit, welfare schemes and capacity-building programmes.
• The next round of Lok Kalyan Melas will be organised from 1 September to 30 September 2026.
• Under SVANidhi se Samriddhi, socio-economic profiling of more than 51.15 lakh beneficiary families has been completed.
• More than 1.59 crore sanctions have been provided under 8 Central Government welfare schemes to eligible family members of beneficiaries.
• Digital adoption has been promoted through cashback incentives for retail and wholesale transactions, with ₹418.78 crore released so far.
• More than 6 lakh street food vendors have received Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) training on food safety and hygiene.

India to Host 18th BRICS Summit in 2026 During Its BRICS Chairmanship

• India is the BRICS Chair for 2026 and will host the 18th BRICS Summit on 12–13 September 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
• The 18th BRICS Summit will bring together leaders of BRICS member countries, partner countries and outreach invitees.
• India’s BRICS 2026 theme is “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, reflecting a people-centric approach based on the principle of “Humanity First.”
• The key focus areas of India’s BRICS Chairship are resilience, innovation, sustainable development and stronger cooperation among member countries.
• India is a founding member of BRICS and has previously held the BRICS Chairship in 2012, 2016 and 2021.
• India assumed its fourth BRICS Chairship on 1 January 2026.
• The year 2026 marks 20 years since the establishment of BRICS, making India’s 2026 Chairship particularly significant.
• BRICS currently has 11 member countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Indonesia.
• The grouping was originally formed as BRIC in 2006, comprising Brazil, Russia, India and China.
• The grouping became BRICS in 2010 after South Africa
• BRICS aims to strengthen South-South cooperation and enhance the voice of emerging and developing economies in global governance.

India Gains ‘Dialogue Partner’ Status in Global Combat Air Programme’s 6th-Generation Fighter Jet Programme

• India has formally secured Dialogue Partner status in the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) for its 6th-generation fighter jet project.
• India’s Dialogue Partner status marks a significant step in the country’s exploration of future air-combat technologies.
• India joining GCAP as a Dialogue Partner does not mean that India is a buyer, builder or co-developer of the 6th-generation fighter jet.
• As a Dialogue Partner, India will get an opportunity to understand the concept and development of the GCAP programme.
• The founding members of GCAP will engage in discussions and dialogue with India regarding the progress, technology and capabilities of the 6th-generation fighter jet.
• The Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) was launched in 2022 as a trilateral initiative.
• The United Kingdom (UK), Italy and Japan are the founding members of the GCAP.
• GCAP is popularly known as “Tempest” and aims to develop 6th-generation combat air capability.
• The programme seeks to promote cooperation among the participating countries on shared military and industrial objectives.

• TVS Motor Company appointed Peyman Kargar as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Director, effective from 27 January 2027.
• Peyman Kargar will succeed N. Radhakrishnan (KNR) as the CEO and Director of TVS Motor Company.
• After stepping down from the executive role, N. Radhakrishnan will serve as a Non-Executive Director until the company’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in July 2027.
• Peyman Kargar has more than 30 years of experience in the global automotive industry, covering engineering, manufacturing, project management, quality, sales, marketing and business development.
• His professional experience spans Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East, giving him extensive exposure to international automotive markets.
• Before becoming CEO and Director, Kargar was serving as President, International Business at TVS Motor Company.
• Earlier, Kargar served as Global Chairman and President of INFINITI Motor Company, the luxury vehicle division of Nissan, for two years.
• He also served as Vice President (VP) of Sales and Marketing at Renault Group from 2014 to 2017.

• Raksha Rajya Mantri (RRM) Shri Sanjay Seth will inaugurate the second Annual Trident Lecture of the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS) on 1 September 2026.
• The event will be held at the Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi.
• Sanjay Seth will deliver a Special Address on the theme “Leveraging the Potential of Next Generation for Nation Building.”
• The Annual Trident Lecture is being organised as part of CENJOWS’ anniversary celebrations.
• The theme of the lecture is “National Resurgence through the Lens of Defence Forces.”
• Air Marshal Tejinder Singh, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee (CISC) and Chairman, CENJOWS, will deliver the Keynote Address.

Indian Army Signs $93 Million United States Deal to Procure FGM-148 Javelin Missiles

• The Indian Army (IA) signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LOA) with the United States of America (USA) to procure nearly 100 FGM-148 Javelin Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM)
• The Javelin procurement deal is valued at approximately USD 93 million and is being carried out through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS)
• The procurement will make India a customer of the Javelin system, strengthening the existing India–US Major Defense Partnership.
• The procurement package includes nearly 100 Javelin missiles, 25 Command Launch Units (CLUs), one fly-to-buy round, simulation equipment, training aids, spare parts, and complete lifecycle support systems.
• The FGM-148 Javelin is a medium-range, fire-and-forget anti-tank guided missile designed to engage armoured vehicles and fortified positions.
• The Javelin uses infrared guidance and can operate in both top-attack and direct-attack modes.
• The top-attack capability enables the Javelin to strike the more vulnerable upper section of armoured vehicles, while the direct-attack mode can be used against suitable targets and fortified positions.
• The Javelin missile system is manufactured by the Javelin Joint Venture (JV), a collaboration between RTX Corporation and Lockheed Martin Corporation of the United States.
• Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) signed an agreement with the Javelin Joint Venture in February 2025 for potential co-production of Javelin missile systems in India.

• ICGS Meera Behn, bearing pennant number 234, was decommissioned at Okha, Gujarat, on 22 August 2026.
• ICGS Meera Behn completed nearly 20 years of service with the Indian Coast Guard.
• ICGS Meera Behn was built by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) and was commissioned into the Indian Coast Guard on 25 July 2006.
• ICGS Subhadra Kumari Chauhan, bearing pennant number 233, was decommissioned at Mumbai, Maharashtra, on 27 August 2026.
• ICGS Subhadra Kumari Chauhan served the Indian Coast Guard in maritime security and coastal surveillance before its decommissioning.

• The 10th Taiwan-India Industrial Collaboration Summit brought together more than 200 representatives from industry, government and academia.
• The summit organised three focused sub-forums covering Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) & Electronics Manufacturing, Green & Smart Technologies, and Smart Automotive Components.

Department of Legal Affairs Establishes Mediation Council of India with Headquarters in New Delhi

• The Department of Legal Affairs (DoLA) under the Ministry of Law & Justice (MoLJ) notified the establishment of the Mediation Council of India (MCI) with its head office in New Delhi, Delhi.
• The Mediation Council of India (MCI) has been established to promote domestic and international mediation and strengthen India’s dispute-resolution framework.
• The official notification for establishing the MCI was issued under sub-section (1) of Section 31 of the Mediation Act, 2023 (Act 32 of 2023).
• The Mediation Council of India comprises 1 Chairperson, 2 Members, 3 ex-officio Members and 1 part-time Member representing a recognised body of commerce and industry.
• The non-ex-officio Members of the Council will have a four-year tenure and will be eligible for reappointment, subject to the prescribed age limits.
• The maximum age limit is 70 years for the Chairperson and 67 years for other Members.
• The MCI will be responsible for regulating mediation standards and overseeing mediator registration and certification.
• The Council will recognise mediation institutes and mediation service providers to ensure quality and standardisation in the mediation ecosystem.
• The MCI will also conduct training programmes and courses to develop professional capacity in the field of mediation.
• The Council will maintain an electronic depository of mediated settlement agreements and other related records.
• The MCI will prepare and submit reports on the implementation of the Mediation Act, 2023 to the Central Government.
• The Mediation Act, 2023 was enacted by the Parliament of India to provide a comprehensive legal framework for mediation and alternative dispute resolution.
• Under the Mediation Act, 2023, individuals are required to attempt to resolve civil or commercial disputes through mediation before approaching a court or tribunal, subject to the provisions and exceptions under the Act.
• The mediation process under the Act is required to be completed within 180 days (6 months).
• The mediation period can be extended by another 180 days if both parties agree.

China Tests Stealth-Coated YJ-18A Variant to Enhance Anti-Ship Missile Capabilities

• China reportedly tested a new variant of the YJ-18A anti-ship cruise missile, featuring a black radar-absorbing coating designed to improve its radar evasion and penetration capabilities.
• The new missile variant was tested by launching it from a navy ship’s Vertical Launch System (VLS) during an extreme-performance trial in an undisclosed sea area.
• The missile was identified by experts as a new variant of the YJ-18A (Yingji, meaning “Eagle Strike”), a Chinese anti-ship cruise missile.
• The black radar-absorbing coating is designed to reduce radar reflections, making the missile more difficult for enemy radar systems to detect.
• The new coating could improve the missile’s penetration capability and provide better visual camouflage over deep water, according to reports citing military experts.
• The YJ-18A follows a subsonic cruise phase before conducting a supersonic terminal attack against its target.
• The YJ-18A is deployed on Chinese Type 052D destroyers and Type 055 destroyers.
• The Type 052D destroyer has a displacement of around 7,500 tonnes, while the Type 055 destroyer has a displacement of around 12,000 tonnes.
• The original YJ-18 missile was derived from the Russian 3M-54E submarine-launched anti-ship missile system.

• Gangaichthys indonepalicus was discovered in the Indo-Gangetic Basin in Pashchim Champaran district, Bihar, near the India–Nepal border.
• The discovery marks the first recorded subterranean fish from the Gangetic Basin and the Indo-Gangetic Plain.
• The findings were published in the scientific journal ZooKeys by an international team of researchers from India and China.
• The genus name Gangaichthys is derived from Ganga, referring to the Ganges River, and the Greek word ichthys, meaning fish.
• The species name indonepalicus refers to its distribution in the India–Nepal border region.
• Gangaichthys indonepalicus exhibits several adaptations to underground environments, including a complete lack of pigmentation and reduced, skin-covered eyes.
• The fish has an elongated body and may also have an absence of ribs, indicating specialised adaptations for life in subterranean habitats.

• He achieved international fame by portraying Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Show, the stage musical created by Richard O’Brien.
• The Rocky Horror Show premiered in London in 1973, and Curry later reprised the role of Frank-N-Furter in the 1975 film adaptation, The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
• The role of Frank-N-Furter became the defining performance of Tim Curry’s career and helped make The Rocky Horror Picture Show one of the most enduring cult films in cinema.

• Following the death of King Harald V, his son Crown Prince Haakon automatically succeeded him and became King Haakon VIII, the monarch and Head of State of Norway.
• King Haakon VIII is the son of King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway and has an elder sister, Princess Märtha Louise.
• Haakon became Crown Prince in 1991 following his father’s accession to the Norwegian throne.
• The Norwegian monarchy has a largely symbolic and constitutional role, while political power rests with the country’s elected Parliament.
• Harald V became king after his father, King Olav V, died in January 1991, and his reign coincided with an oil-and-gas-driven economic boom in Norway.

• Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, the king of Uganda’s traditional pre-colonial Tooro Kingdom, passed away at the age of 34 in the United States of America (USA).
• Oyo Nyimba was born on 16 April 1992 and belonged to the royal family of the Tooro Kingdom.
• He ascended the throne in 1995 at the age of just 3 years, following the death of his father, King Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III.
• Oyo Nyimba was formally given responsibility for ruling the kingdom after attaining the age of 18 years.
• He became the 13th monarch of the ancient Tooro Kingdom, which was founded in the early 19th century.
• Guinness World Records recognised Oyo Nyimba as the world’s youngest reigning monarch because he became king at the age of 3.
• As monarch, Oyo Nyimba was associated with a kingdom that traditionally represented more than 2 million people.
• The Tooro Kingdom is one of Uganda’s traditional kingdoms and is located in western Uganda, near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

• The Ministry of Education (MoE) initiated the observance of Sanskrit Diwas in 1969 at the central and state levels.
• Sanskrit Week 2026 is being observed from 24–30 August 2026 to encourage awareness, study and wider use of Sanskrit.
• The day highlights the importance of Sanskrit in Indian literature, philosophy, linguistics, culture and traditional knowledge systems.
