When the gaps between numbers increase or decrease gradually, the pattern lies in the difference of the differences.

• Logic: The first layer of differences does not show a pattern, but the second layer reveals a constant or simple arithmetic progression. 

• Example: 4, 11, 25, 47, 78,?

• First differences: +7, +14, +22, +31 (No immediate pattern)

• Second differences (double differences): +7, +8, +9

• The next second difference must be +10.

• Next first difference: 31 + 10 = 41.

• Missing number: 78 + 41 = 119

2. The N² and N³ Variations (Squares & Cubes)

SBI PO rarely asks for straightforward square or cube series. They twist them by adding or subtracting constants, or adding/subtracting the base number itself. 

• Logic:

• N² ± constant 

• N³ ± constant 

• N² ± N 

• N³ ± N 

• Example (N³ - N): 0, 6, 24, 60, 120,?

• (1³ - 1), (2³ - 2), (3³ - 3), (4³ - 4), (5³ - 5)

• Next term: 6³ − 6 = 216 − 6 = 210

• Example (N² + 1): 2, 5, 10, 17, 26,?

• (1² + 1), (2² + 1), (3² + 1), (4² + 1), (5² + 1)

• Next term: 6² + 1 = 37 

3. The Prime Number Gap Pattern

This is a high-yield trap pattern. The differences between the numbers are prime numbers rather than standard odd numbers.

• Logic: Gaps follow the sequence 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23... 

• Example: 10, 12, 15, 20, 27,?

• Differences: +2, +3, +5, +7

• Candidates often mistakenly add +9 next, thinking they are odd numbers.

• Because 2 is included, it is a prime series. The next prime number is +11.

• Missing number: 27 + 11 = 38

4. The Combo Pattern (Multiplication + Addition/Subtraction)

When a series grows drastically, it involves multiplication. SBI PO mixes this with a secondary arithmetic operation that increases progressively. 

• Logic:  ×1 +1×2 +2×3 +3×4 +4×5 +5

• Example: 5, 6, 14, 45, 184,?

• 5 × 1 + 1 = 6

• 6 × 2 + 2 = 14

• 14 × 3 + 3 = 45

• 45 × 4 + 4 = 184

5. The Decelerating/Decimal Pattern (The "0.5" Trap)

If a series starts by decreasing slightly (or staying the same) and then begins to increase rapidly, it almost always involves a 0.5 multiplication step.

• Logic: Multiplying by ×0.5×1×1.5×2×2.5×3

• Example: 12, 6, 6, 9, 18, 45,?

• 12 × 0.5 = 6

• 6 × 1 = 6

• 6 × 1.5 = 9

• 9 × 2 = 18

• 18 × 2.5 = 45

6. Alternating Series (Twin Series)

A single sequence that contains two completely independent logic tracks running simultaneously.

• Logic: Odd-positioned terms (1st, 3rd, 5th) follow one rule, while even-positioned terms (2nd, 4th, 6th) follow another.
